Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

We’ve won 10 playoffs rounds since the Leafs’ last, and we’ve been to the conference finals or more 3 times, and we’ve been an example of mediocrity. That Toronto streak is as improbable and uncanny as Canada’s drought since 1983.
1993

Don't make it worse than it already is!😂

Don't think so. The team went into rapid decline soon after 93 and we were unlikely to knock off Pittsburgh in 91 or 92.

But you never know how fate would have worked or events intertwined by not having made that trade I suppose. Heavy. But yes, player for player it was a disaster.
Well we didn't knock off Pittsburgh in 91 or 92 because we were busy losing to Boston and in 93 the Isles beat them for us. But the 92 Blackhawks with Chelios barely laid a glove on Pittsburgh in the finals and they never got that close again while Chelios was there.

LOL....max dollars for Zona is peanuts

Only Leafs can add that extra year; they will not let him go.
Nor should they.

Dubas will be fired long before they let Matthews walk.

I don't see it happening, they have the money to outbid anyone. It's just a matter of ramifications.

Would a player like Matthews really be worried about the extra year? Would he need to be? He may be a total douche canoe but he isn't a marginal player and he is going to make his money no matter what.

sure...but you are confusing the Leafs with the Expos. Or maybe it's just wishful thinking on your part, that AM will bolt as soon as he can.

I would say that Toronto and Calgary, while both in Canada, ain't the same
Sure , but 34 will go where he wants to go

One thing is certain

His agent and the NHLPA will use 34 to set the next salary bar exceeding McJesus , probably around 15 mil

If the only way to keep him is to pay him to the point where they guarantee that they can't build a Cup caliber roster around him then they're better off letting him walk. Right now they have $40 million committed to 4 players who aren't getting them anywhere. Meanwhile Ottawa has Giroux, DeBrincat, Tkachuk, Norris, and Chabot for just under $42 million.
