Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

I have no idea why Vancouver would do that deal either.

The whole point of trying to get rid of Myers is to make room under the cap, not acquiring a worst contract.

We would need to add a significant amount to make that trade happen.
Bingo

At worst the Nucks should land a first , a decent roster player and a prospect

Myers expires in 1 year and you dont pay Bo

You do realize Monahan is worth a first right? Then you described "fillers".

Fucking hurts my brain

Step one trade Monahan for a first you Muppets

Step two package up whatever you fucking want with that first but shove Gallagher down their throats. I think they're dumb enough to do it.

Step 3, give them their fucking fillers.

Fillers, it's a term people.

Meery Christmas

So, why would Vancouver do that trade? Beyond the usual, dumb teams make dumb trades angle? Btw, the guy who did all of their bad trades (Jim Benning) isn't the GM anymore. The new guy hasn't done anything egregious yet.

When teams do bad trades, there's usually a logic behind it. When we traded McDonagh & Higgins to NYR for Gomez, logic was, we need a certified top-end NHL center and we'll give up a prospect we deemed expendable. In a certain way, the logic makes sense. When Vancouver traded 3 bad contracts, a first & a second for OEL & Garland, they were getting two established players that would make their team better instantly and they wouldn't be giving up a player of note on their team or a prospect or note. It makes sense.

Why would Vancouver trade Boeser (player on pace for his annual ~0.6PPG with 2 more years on his contract) for this? Vancouver, for all intent & purposes, aren't tearing the team down. If anything, they're trying to rebuild on the spot, as short-sighted & fruitless as that may be. Monahan would net a first round pick from a team that would pick in the last 20s / early 30s, because those are the only teams that would be willing to trade something for him. A first round pick that late does absolutely nothing for Vancouver.

All in all, I just don't think we're a great match with Vancouver based both teams' situations.

Actually, you know one place we could possibly trade with Vancouver? They need some goaltending.

Jake Allen & Michael Pezzetta for Spencer Martin, Tanner Pearson & a 2023 2nd round pick.

(As I continue to dream)

His name is Francesco Aquilini…

I always loved that line of defense...

Why would they do this?

Then head scratcher trades get made and those same people aren't around to say "i guess that's why they do this ".

Western Canadian teams are the only shot of dumping him. It'll take a team with bad contracts to give back that's looking to change the culture and makeup of the team.

Now who could that be? 🤔

No Habs fan old enough to remember as far back as the Houle administration should be asking the "Why would they do this?" question nor should they be trying to find any logic to it. Vancouver would do it because their GM is just a meat puppet for the narcissist owner and said owner is a thin-skinned, easily triggered fucking moron. That's why they'd do it.

Why did the Leafs in the 70's and 80's make so many dumb trades? Because Harold Ballard only hired flunkies to do his bidding, not real GM's, and he was also a fucking moron. Why do the Dallas Cowboys underachieve like they're the Leafs of the NFL? Because Jerrah knows better than the people he hires to run the team. Narcissistic morons with money do this shit all the time. Aquilini is a narcissistic moron. Simple as that.

Theoretical,

Rasmus Ristolainen (4 more years @ $5.1M) for Jack Campbell (4 more years @ $5M).

Who says no?

Cheap starting money, with a super-expensive back-up.

Glad Deadmonton is sticking to convention wisdom!
Extending goalies to 5 years is not ideal

However , if there ever was a fit Jack the guy

He had to beat out 2 crap goalies and just be average , not too much to ask .
