Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

and as expected, the player is being torn to shreds on twitter
As he should be. Russians are such homophobes. he should just be happy he isn't being deported.

And let's also not forget that he really doesn't have a choice to opt out of this. He signed a contract and there are conditions of employment that go beyond just playing hockey. The Flyers and the NHL are corporate entities which have corporate partnerships and and sponsors. Those warm-up jerseys, whatever you think about them, are just another contractual obligation from which Provorov is not exempt. The league needs to make an example of him and fine his ass.

didn't you call a politician "light on his feet" yesterday?

And chalk one up in the daily The Fascist was wrong column:

"Hockey is for Everyone is the umbrella initiative under which the League encourages Clubs to celebrate the diversity that exists in their respective markets, and to work to achieve more welcoming and inclusive environments for all fans," the statement read. "Clubs decide whom to celebrate, when and how — with League counsel and support. Players are free to decide which initiatives to support, and we continue to encourage their voices and perspectives on social and cultural issues."

So much for the whole "he has a contract" stuff.

Can we deport The Fascist to Russia instead?

As I said right on cue “this should get interesting”…

Provo can fuck off… the arena is not a place of religious worship
That may be but should it be a place where political statements are made? Last year the league did all the Ukraine stuff except for Washington because of how many Russians are on the team. Say for example, Molson decided to make all players where a Ukrainian jersey for a warmup, should Dadonov be required to wear one? What if a team owner was on Russia's side, should he be able to force his players to wear a Russian jersey in warmup.

I fully support LGBTQIAP+ rights and equality. Does that fact I don't go to Pride parades nor wear a rainbow tshirt make a bad person and mean I do not support their equality? If I were Provorov I would have worn it just to avoid any shit (like most of the rest of the team who probably don't care one iota about LGBTQIAP+ rights).

I have been told the right to protest is sacrosanct, but it does seem that to the majority of society now says protest is only sacrosanct IF you agree with the reason for the protest. The silence is violence line of thinking forces businesses who really do not care about X or Y to put out meaningless tweets, IG posts supporting X and Y just so they do not seem to be against it.

Supporting LGBTQ rights isn't a "political" statement, it's a simple recognition of basic human rights. If these Russian homophobes can't get on board with that, tough. Move back to the Motherland and enlist in the Red Army if you don't believe in human rights.

"What if a team owner was on Russia's side?" Any team owner on Russia's side needs to have their franchise revoked. There's no "both sides" to this. Russia are the bad guys, full stop. Anyone who takes their side should be kicked out of the league.

If a player joined the KKK and spread it around on social media he'd find himself unemployed the same day. The right to protest may be sacrosanct but the right to be free from the consequences of your bad decisions on what side to support or protest against is not. Any pro-Russia players, coaches, managers, owners, fucking peanut vendors need to feel the pain because they are reprehensible fascists who don't deserve to earn a living in a democracy. And homophobes like these Russian players can fuck off right behind them.

You know it doesn't make you a bad person.

Moreover, your comparison to Ukraine/Russia is faulty. LGBTQIAP+ is not a political issue. It's a human rights and discrimination issue.

wearing a pride jersey is a much a political statement as the other, and I say that only because the NHL does not discriminate against LGBTQIAP+ players as far as I can tell (assuming that 2-3% of the players are).
