Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

Agreed to a point

If your competitive like Winnipeg is/was inking a front liner like Wheeler to 5 years your concern is probably year 4 and 5

But he is a key piece to your window to win , I understand those moves

Inking Skinner , Okposo Gally or Price to stupid money when your in full gut rebuild is bad management

These moves saved nobody`s job , teams clean house at some point

Teams spinning their wheels should never make these mistakes

Only exception is inking your out of entry ELC core kids to term and have 6-8 years to figure it out

They have upside , trade clauses dont kick in for years and are easily moveable for great returns

Teams are too scared to accept reality and act accordingly

The bigger issue is GM mis-evaluating their team and thinking it's better than it is. It's even worse when you trade for a player with an expiring contract as you have no leverage and try to safeguard your assets (often doubling down on a mistake).

But the players will get the contract, because there is always a team that will give it to them so if you want a player, you need to pay the extra mil and the extra 2 years.

Bingo , isnt that the problem the majority of the time

If your going to overpay , make sure its the right player at the right time

In 4 weeks teams are going to make so many stupid trades

Teams will give a quality prospect or decent draft pick for that 5th D on a team that cant win a round , why bother .

Then we get to July 1 , when the majority of your cap mistakes are made

Some media carnival barkers suggest the Horvat trade/deal was partly motivated Fishsticks’ desire to stay relevant in NY market.

Dunno if true. Seems like it could be plausible.

And let’s assume the Isles and Horvat will be super motivated on Saturday and then the Habs drop the Sunday game coz they’re tired!

Yet another team shows that the NHL's "Hockey is for Everybody" campaign is hypocrisy.

The Isles are fine with wearing special warmup jerseys for Hockey Fights Cancer, St. Patrick's Day and, of course Military Night, but Pride? Fuck it. We don't want to piss off the war-mongering Russian Orthodox homophobes.
