Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had a 100 point season but he's been so invisible in these playoffs that the only way his name could be mentioned less by the play-by-play announcer is if he were a healthy scratch. Zach Hyman had a career season too but in the playoffs he's been hot and cold. Evander Kane has played well in spurts but he's always one selfish penalty away from singlehandedly losing a series for the team. Darnell Nurse is the most overrated and overpaid defenseman in the league. Offensively gifted but in his own zone it's a coin flip as to whether or not he'll do the right thing or blow his assignment. Ekholm, Bouchard, Cici and Kulak have earned their keep. Nurse and Deharnais, the human dumpster fire, have cost them key goals.

Yes, Ekholm was a great add at the deadline but they really needed to add another veteran blueliner (Edmunson?) because their depth on the blueline is crap like Desharnais. The Oilers really could have used a healthy Oscar Klefbom, quite frankly.

Their(Edmonton) system is just too loose. Some games, or parts thereof, they seem to be able to shut it down. Then it all goes to shit.

Does this mean Habs are a zero man team?

and how long will it take to get to two?

good question although, depending on the result of the Golden Shower series, we will have won as many playoff series since 2016 as the Oilers with their two superstars

The Oilers finally did something smart by getting Ekholm. But he's one of six and he might be the only d-man they have that I have any kind of faith in.

The Nurse and Campbell contracts are among the worst deals in the league, not to mention they had given a ridiculous contract to both Barrie and Ceci, before Nashville took Barrie off of their hands.

I'm no fan of The Charlatan, but The Charlatan would have built a real defense if he had inherited that team.
Bouchard is defensively inept, more so than Nurse, Ekholm is protecting him the way Markov protected Komisarek
