Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

I'm with you and count.

It is obviously not just a jersey to the LGBT community or the anti LGBT players.

Having a son that is a visible minority has opened my eyes (some might say woke me up) to the importance of gestures like jerseys.

Side note : I'm proud of the Guhle autographed pride puck I have.
My buddy bought a pride jersey. He's not gay but his brother is so I agree with you on this, it's not until someone dear to you is involved until most people "wake up".

My opinion on the pride jerseys is the same as the military jerseys, the breast cancer jerseys, etc.

I don't care one way or another, and those jerseys aren't going to sway me one way or another on how I choose spend my money on those causes.

The St. Patrick's jerseys, though? You can fuck right off with that shit. Permaban it and that dumb celebration for drunks.
Awareness campaigns are nice.

For pride though it shows that gay folks can be accepted. However it needs to go beyond just a jersey. Diversity at a surface level only is not enough.

That's all they're looking for, normalcy, but for some reason people question their own sexuality when seeing these campaigns.

#insecurity.

There have always been gay people and there always will be gay people. The population of the earth has surpassed 8b people. I don't think gays are affecting anything in that aspect so why the F does anyone care? My kids all have gay friends and the contagion didn't affect them. Curious eh? I mean don't gays make more gays?

In other words people, lighten the fuck up.

Excellent. Back when we hate pride parades in Edmonton my wife would work on them. Would teach a mix of people a dance for a float. Having her friend join the parade after years of fear made her so happy. And it also encouraged another person to come out.

Meeting and talking with everyone and hearing the shit they have to deal with first hand is quite amazing. So fuck those pieces of shit that just fill themselves with hate.

That was always my thing. People being gay doesn't impact me at all.

For the most part interracial marriage doesn't register anymore. Hopefully that is where gay marriage is headed.

that might be but LGBTQIAP2SL+++++++ do themselves no favours when at parades there are groups of adult males marching naked. Many take their children to the parades to have their children see their brothers and sisters are no different as people, just who want to have coitus with as adults. The naked groups run the risk of pissing those people off.

Streaking, or being naked in public, is a crime so they're asking for it.

Having been to a couple of these I haven't seen anything like what you described.

While worm may have been joking, just ask the people on the Leafs board what they think. Many aren't joking if they say that.

(Including the fine folk on Sal's favorite podcast, Steve Dangle & Friends)
the Leaf echo chamber is beyond help, there literally is no divergence of thought over there

Sure there is, I provoke it. Peeps just don't want to engage for fear of a meltdown. C'est la vie et la guerre non?

I support pride parades, people expressing support by wearing shirts, flags, etc. I fully and entirely support educational campaigns and fundamentals changes, but corporate posturing, especially when it's not tied to any meaningful changes, has always bugged me.

Ya. The hipocracy isn't good.

I know you are not in Seattle anymore but I was pleasantly surprised by the number of businesses having blm and pride flags displayed.

Oh.
I think the same as most on the leafs board.

Hockey culture is fucked. I really feel bad for the gay kids that have to hide who the are in minor hockey especially. At least on the women's side being gay doesn't seem to matter as much.
Now, this I agree with. I've said it a few times here, but there's a good NHL player that I've heard some really fucking bad things about when he was in Junior. I wasn't there and can't prove it (and for that reason, I won't repeat it here), but he should be counting his lucky stars he's never had anything come out, assuming the whole thing isn't a fabrication.

And not just towards gay kids, too. The amount of times I've heard women say bad things about hockey players? There's a sense of entitlement that hockey players have. Part of it is, let's not hide it, hockey's a sport for rich kids. Another part of it is, culture within hockey. Just look at their reaction when one of their team mates gets hit. You'd never see that in football.

If it's mandated by your employer a a uniform? It's contractual. These things are in the SPCs.
EXACTLY!

If your employer enters into a corporate partnership and makes the business decision to participate in a charity initiative such as Pride Night, then you as an employee of that corporate entity, are participating. It's not optional. You do what the fuck you're told, when the fuck you're told and how the fuck you're told because you are contractually obligated to participate. Failure to comply should result in sanctions up to and including a suspension. Don't wear the warmup jersey? You sit. You are a healthy scratch.

This is no different than that female tennis player who didn't want to do pressers because she has anxiety issues or whatever other lame-assed excuse she used. Corporate sponsorship of pro tennis is the very thing that allows her to make money playing that game in the first place and that money isn't "free". You don't get to just show up, play a couple of sets, then collect your paycheque. There are strings attached. There are responsibilities off the court. You need to sit at a table in front of a backdrop displaying the tournament logo and the corporate sponsor logo and answer questions from the media. Don't want to do that? Get a fucking job.

Most pro hockey players would be pumping gas or flipping burgers if they hadn't been gifted their natural abilities because most of them are fucking morons and I don't care what a moron thinks about Pride Night. I don't care what a Christofascist homophobe thinks about it either. Stop pretending you know how to think for yourself without swallowing your tongue in the process. You want the money? Then shut the fuck up and do as you're told, you dumb fucking hick.
