Probably alcohol/drug related on the workplace, refused help/treatment, led to him getting released.
Secondary option, if we want to be a little conspiracy theory-ish? Incident with a fan, caught on camera, threat of going public if not given hush money, leading to Perry getting kicked out.

Refs add another twist to the "lets keep the Leafs in the game" philosophy" that has always existed in Toronto, in disallowing Panthers shootout goal. Leafs end up geting two points instead of Panthers LOL. This all following the obligatory late game call on Leafs opposition(4 minute call on Panthers).

I'm sure there's all kinds of technical rules around the shootout, which hopefully will soon be a moot point if the shootout goes someday. One can probably in most cases make an argument why this or that goal should or shouldn't count, why this should or should not be a penalty Those are the situations the refs seize upon, the grey areas late in the game. The grey areas will generally turn up favouring the blue.
