Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

The gift that keeps on giving.

I might be crazy enough to think about taking on Jonathan Huberdeau if Calgary withheld enough of his salary. Something like 35-40%.
I was saying earlier that Calgary would definitely consider a Gallagher-Huberdeau trade. I wouldn’t from Montreal perspective. But I might consider that trade with 40-50% retention on Huberdeau.

A straight up Huberdeau for Gallagher trade doesn't interest me in the least. I'd do it without blinking if I was Calgary, though, simply because of the term remaining (7 years for Huberdeau, 3 for Gallagher).

Huberdeau @ $6.5M ($4M retention for Calgary) for Gallagher straight up? I'd think long & hard about it.

I have lost faith in Huberdeau. Its been such a long stretch of mediocrity, can he snap out of it playing for us? I'm not confident.

Don't we already have enough offensive players who are producing little to no offense as it is?
Yes, but Huberdeau didn't suddenly forget how to play hockey overnight. I just don't think Calgary's a good fit for him.

Also, if this team was ran the way I wanted it, I'd never even think about getting Huberdeau. However, since we're trying to rush through the rebuild prematurely and probably push to make the playoffs consistently as of next year, he's a player I would think about. Especially at $6.5M.

There is no rush rebuild , Hugo hasn’t made 1 bad move to indicate this .

They haven’t moved assets or draft capital to get aging vets

I think Huberdeau yearns for a non traditional hockey market - misses the anonymity…

Alex Newhook says hello. As I explained in the other thread, trading for him was completely meaningless when you examine the timeline of everything that needs to happen for a rebuild.

Re-signing Montembeault says hello. If they're going to re-sign Monahan, that will say hello.

Also, it's not necessarily just the actions they've taken, but their inaction. The teardown required hasn't been done. Mix that with their disinterest in wanting to tank?

Not good. Not good at all.
