I will get banned again soon, worry not.
They're all guilty and not one of them will ever play another NHL shift no matter what happens in court. The Court of Public Opinion and Optics matters more than any court of law, at least to any corporate entity that makes money entertaining the public. Aside from that idiotic skit with Tucker Carlson, has Kevin Spacey appeared in anything other than a court room since he was accused of sexual assault? They reshot an entire fucking movie just so they could expunge him from it. What about Jessie Smollet? Has he been cast in anything or even invited to an awards show? Has Marilyn Manson toured recently? In sports and entertainment, perception is the only reality.
Besides which, the court case may not happen for another year or two and these players are not going to be permitted to continue playing in the meantime. They might be suspended with pay, but they won't play prior to the trial and afterward, no matter the verdict, they will be gone. This is a PR nightmare for which (and for once) the NHL isn't solely responsible. And it's a problem that is easy to make disappear simply by blackballing the players. They will be paid out and not offered new contracts. At that point they'll either need to go to the KHL or retire. There will also be a discreet word given by the league to all affected teams that these players are persona non grata and will not be invited to any league or team-sponsored event ever. They no longer exist as NHL players, for all intents and purposes.
