Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

San Jose fires David Quinn.

I wonder what the justification might be? Didn't get the most out of Mike Hoffman? Didn't win enough games? Didn't try to lose enough games?

Regardless...

not NHL related but hockey related.

Yesterday in U18 qualifying, Thailand beat Kuwait 57-0 and outshot them 122-1. The Kuwait guys were basically skating on their ankles

Sometimes I see David Quinn & Dave Hakstoll and wonder whether it's worth giving up a possible job for life gig in the NCAA for short NHL career as head coach.

David Quinn was the coach of Boston U and that's one of the top programs in America. He could have been there for the rest of his working life and been paid handsomely.

Is not worst record in the league good enough of a reason? Terrible roster but has he done anything worth keeping him?

because, generally, getting your first NHL gig guarantees you a few more Take Vigneault, Dauterive, Therrien, did well by not succeeding anywhere for the most part (Dauterive does have one cup), Jacques Martin, Deboer, Lindy on the Road, Ruff and Home and others too

Not when management is actively trying to make it the worst roster in the league while making no attempts at improving it.

Next coach is going to come in and the same thing's going to happen next year. They're going to make zero effort of improving and they're going to finish dead last again. If that's the case, why bother firing the coach?

They had 2 seasons with him, at this point you’d think they would have a good sense whether he’s the right coach for them moving forward. MSL record and situation wasn’t much different (albeit better on both counts), but he has established himself as the right person to move on with the next phase. I don’t see the same with Quinn. Even when you lose, you have to show something.

I’ve met Quinn, through youth hockey. Seems like a really nice guy.

Jakub Voracek's officially retired. One of the more underrated tough players of the last 15 years.

I read a story of how he played through gout while in Philly and I nearly fell out of my chair.
