I'm hoping Berube's blood pressure rises in Toronto, but he survives of course.

I had thoughts of Brian Burke when I heard of the hiring.
 
As a player, Berube AVERAGED just over 20 minutes of penalty time per 60 minutes. That's a hell of a lot of time fir him to be alone with his thought.

It simply comes down to taking .75 on the dollar return or paying him and deal with the butterfly core and cap mess

Theu don't need to get 100 cents on the dollar for Marner. What they need to do is get rid of his cap hit so they can spend that money on players who give a shit about winning and losing. Regular season goals and assists don't impress me and ultimately it's not what any team interested in the Cup is actually paying for. What they are paying for is the playoffs. Marner does nothing for them there so he might as well be a 4th line scrub for all the good it does them.

Pure cap space isnt going to help them

They need a decent return of a top 4 D , good prospect/ picks and decent fillers to make the money work

Your not replacing his production based on utilizing cap space

A hypothetical trade that gives them something is Konekny/York / first pick for a resigned Marner

Pretty sure he’ll accept a move to a U.S. team vs Revenue Canada back taxes for breaking residency requirements per US / Canada tax treaty w his present contract

Wouldn’t it be something if he accepts a deal back to Isles for the final year of his contract …

His playoff production is near zero so that should be easy to replace.
