Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

Deadmonton, who had clear problems in net & on defense last year, decided that...

...they'd like to try to improve their offensive depth and probably worsen their defense while not changing anything in net. And hire Stan Bowman. Who's going to be tasked with re-signing Bouchard. And Bouchard might end up getting $80M from Deadmonton.

Hard to feel sorry for 'em.

They’ll be fine.

Define "fine".

Will they make the playoffs, sure.

Will they be in the Stanley Cup again? I highly doubt it.

They just had an utterly incomprehensible summer.

There’s no possible way you can be so sure of that on October 13. And barring injuries, what team, beside Dallas, as of now, has a realistic chance to dethrone them in the West?

By all accounts they had a good summer. But they have no chance if Skinner doesn't get better. If he ends up getting yanked in playoff games again it's not going to end well. McJebus got them to game 7 of the finals but even he couldn't make up for Skinner. He had an incredible playoff streak and waltzed to the Conn Smythe and it was still not enough to negate the softies that Skinner let in. With any other goalie the Oilers would all be wearing rings today. Monty could have got them there.

They were fucked and hands were tied with big contracts looming

They fucked up not utilizing Broberg who looks solid right now , could of had him on the cheap which is what they need now

He will still be an RFA , doubt he gets 80 mil

Again, you have a complete misunderstanding about how these things work. He'll be an RFA, sure. But he'll also be a year away from unrestricted free agency in 20 months.

Evan Bouchard has a huge grip on the stick. He's going to get his 8 year contract. If not with Deadmonton, then with someone else.

I’d consider Ville Husso (Det waivers) as G option in place of Primeau - last year of contract, worst case can become a deadline conversion project / flip.

He is overated and stats are padded with 2 elite forwards

Prone to defensive lapses , he isn’t worth 10 mil

Needs the right fit to for his skill set and few teams can offer that .
