There was a video on Twitter where CBC is interviewing Marc Messier, I think it was the 84 season. I saw the video a few weeks ago and can't find it, but there was something that really stood out to me. There was an uptick in violence across the NHL and the league was making a real attempt to get it out of the game by giving hefty suspensions. In the interview, they mentioned Messier was returning from a 10 game suspension and there were other players who were getting lengthy suspensions as well.
Fast-forward to the modern NHL, there are sucker punches all the time that result in poultry discipline.
Reaves will get suspended, but it'll be a slap on the wrist more than anything else.
