Gotta start sometime. They've already proven nmc mean shit by moving Trouba. They'll be ruthless about it.
 
It took longer than I thought, but my "Kreider's contract sucks" take from a few years ago ended up being half right.

The problem with players like Kreider is, there aren't many teams that can take his contract on without giving money in return. Teams like San Jose & Chicago could, but they're going to need to be compensated for taking on $6.5M for two more seasons.

Contenders could use him
 
There isn't a single contender that would even think of taking Kreider's contract.

Most of them have no capspace, and the ones who do aren't looking for term, they're looking for rentals.

There are ways to slot him in

Leafs need size and grit and can move money
 
NYR would have to retain 50% for a contender to be interested or take back a bad contract.

He'll have to earn it from the 3rd/4th line... Torts isn't the guy to keep a Michkov type on the top line and with top PP minutes to help him break out.

Even then, I don't think a single contender is lining up to get him. If he was a Pending UFA, it would be a different story.

The two extra years are a killer.
