Champions League, Europa, Conference League 2024-2025

The European finals are set and it’s an all-England affair in the Europa League, giving the Premier League 6 teams in the Champions League next season.

In the Champions League, it’s PSG v. Inter. It’s the first time in forever that a team from England, Spain or Germany aren’t in the Final

The all-England Europa League final is Man U v. Spurs. The winner goes into next year’s Champions League, neither would have qualified for European football otherwise.

The Conference League final is Chelsea v. Real Betis

A team from the bottom half of the league is going to be in the champions league next season. It feels very wrong. Also, I hate both teams so my hope is that neither wins and that everyone just agrees neither are deserving and just give the sixth place team in the league champions league qualifications as well.

That match was about as bad as you might have imagined. Spurs goal was a comedy of errors. And this last comment sums up the match perfectly.

Betis sits sixth in La Liga, Chelsea is fifth in the Prem at the moment. But Spurs gets the CL spot. 🤦

Didn't watch it and it's beyond embarrassing that either way an almost relegated team is in the champions league. On the other hand, this is what people wanted from Ange. He was pragmatic and altered his tactics while his counterpart refused to. I'm not super surprised, since Spurs had played a very un-spursian defensive and counterattacking setup against Villa right before that.

It is kind of funny that Ange seems to have no middle ground, it's either super attacking with forced short buildup play no matter what or super defensive with his goalie kicking it long every time.

England's domestic trophy winners and the two lower European competitions. First time the EPL has had five different trophy winners in a season (six if you count the Community Shield, like Pep does)

PSG finally broke through and won the Champions League, dominating Inter 5-0. Luis Enrique joined former teammate Pep Guardiola as the only mangers to win trebles with 2 different clubs, having previously done it at Barcelona in 2014-15.

That final yesterday was about as one-sided as a league stage match. 5-0? Yikes!
Congrats to PSG, their first-ever CL title. Only the second French team to win it, ever

Oh and there's this from BBC, to dispel any notion that PSG did the "right way" after dispensing with Messi, Mbappe and Neymar.

On paper the Champions League and its new format appears a more diverse competition - before you remember PSG's starting XI in Munich cost £403m to assemble, compared to the £137m Inter paid for their starting side.
PSG is still one of the top spending clubs in the world, thanks to their Qatari €€€.

At least they're absolutely a blast to watch, so I don't really care how much they cost to put together. Possibly the most fluid team of all time and I'm at the point where I've decided that Vitinha is the best player on earth. His FBref scouting page is honestly just porn to me and I always have a soft spot for guys who are my size that dominate.
