It's cool to view Murray as next year's Martin Jones if you want to. But going into the season with Murray-Woll being your 1-2 is a good way to have both injured by December and us spending the rest of the season playing the Viking whether he's ready or not and the Russian kid we stranded in newfoundland as our 1-2.

But why? Why not just sign Murray as your "Jones" go Viking-Murray in the AHL and go get Saros or Ullmark. Gives you all year to evaluate your goaltending situation with 4 guys who are plausible options in the playoffs depending on how the season goes, and for a combined cap hit of less than 6 million.

Saros/Ullmark - Both with track records as above average to excellent starter/1A goalies. A good bet to be real gud for us and probably provide the best goaltending we've had since at least Freddy but hopefully without the pressure muffin issue. Not married to either with only 1 yr left, so if it doesn't work it doesn't work

Woll - Maybe he's good, but let's see him get through an entire season without dying twice. Even if you think you can rely on his quality of play (inclusive at best), you can't rely on his durability

Murray - Call me when he gets through a half season in the AHL. Yeah, would be an awesome redemption arc and as I've argued a bunch of times on here, he's done it twice before, wouldn't be that shocking if he did it again

Viking - good but only good rookie season. But huge and athletic is huge and athletic.

I'm good with rolling the dice on as many options as possible, but let's do it from a position where we have as proven as guy as possible at the top of the list for a change please. Our mistake in the Freddy era wasn't necessarily Freddy, it was that there was no 2nd option that was a real option. 1 prospect of note that flopped, and then a collection of journeymen backups and trash.

yeah, this would be an incredibly bad idea. Of course anything is possible, they could each put up .975 save percentages and win double Vezinas, or they could be so bad/injured we replace them early on, but the most likely scenario is that they're just good enough to get us to the playoffs where one of them gets hurt and the other puts up an .875 and we lose in the first round, again.

Get a fucking goalie.

That's honestly my preference. Give the kids the AHL reps, go get Ullmark or Saros and whoever is playing best in the AHL is the #3.

I see the pro Murray argument though becasue that pedigree is sexy and he's "young" enough for their to still be some hope of him finding it again. He might just be crippled and done though. Probably is.

ullmark gonna cost a ton, and you're getting a tandem goalie good for maybe a .915, who's also been terrible in every playoffs he's played in.
