Core 4 No More: The Motherfucking Off-Season Thread

A leading option to clear cap space is the trade route, and according to the Toronto Star’s Nick Kypreos, forward David Kampf, who is the club’s sixth highest-paid forward in 2024-25, could become a viable option to ship out with his $2.4 million cap hit over the next three seasons.

“The bottom-six forwards need some attention as well. Is David Kampf still in the plans to lead the Leafs’ checking line? There’s a good chance they cut bait there as well,” said Kypreos. “Can he be replaced by prospect Fraser Minton or is it time to look for an NHL-ready player elsewhere?"

Strip C from JT, dump Kampf. Play kids. Just make Kyper the GM.

There is no lack of forward depth of course.

The proof is that proven decent depth forwards like Kampf and Krok might legitimately lose their spots if spots were decided purely by merit.

decent chance that between them Cowan and Nicky Bobby can produce the 21 goals that Bert scored. not a big ask. problem is, they were obviously not good enough even with Bert. they needed more goals and still do

Knies 22 --- Matthews 27 --- Robertson 23
Domi 29 --- Tavares 34 --- Marner 27
McMann 28 --- Holmberg 25 --- Nylander 28
Cowan 19 --- Minten 20 --- Grebenkin 21
Dewar 25

Rielly 30 --- Tanev 35
McCabe 31 --- Liljegren 25
OEL 33 --- Hakanpaa 32
Benoit 26

Woll 26
Stolarz 30

We'd have at least $3.5m left to add another player, if he'd be replacing one of the sub-$1m guys. If he was replacing a bigger salary guy, then add the difference to the kitty.

I think a solid 2 or 3C solves a lot of the offensive issues, along with the d being able to make a first pass better than last year. Minten is not ready. Moving holmberg to 4C or JT to 2LW (can still take face offs) - would give the top three lines more offensive punch.Plus getting rid of kampf is an offensive win for everyone stuck playing with him last year

Bert's games played (80gms) came at the expense of Robertson (56gms), McMann (56gms), Holmberg (54gms) who each sat out 1/3 of the games (80gms total) even though they were healthy. And then of course McMann didn't play in the playoffs either, so compared to the playoffs roster mcmann just slots in for Bert.

Goals paces

Bert 22
McMann 22
Robby 21
Holmberg 11

Even Strength

McMann 22
Robby 19
Bert 16
Holmberg 11

shouldn't really miss a beat there tbh. just play these guys instead of benching and waiving them all the time.

of course if cowen plays instead of the likes of Gregor/Reaves, then that should definitely mean a nice offensive upgrade.
