Mask up sheeple :0)

Note: I wear a mask whenever I leave my yard for anything other than a walk in the neighborhood, so ... big whoop.

Same, plus when I go running. Fortunately, I live in a part of town where maintaining social distances while exercising is easy, because the tought of wearing a mask while running is very unappealing.

Some people think wearing a mask makes you look weak. I wonder where they get that idea from?

I am really curious what is going to be done about local sporting events like FB. I just can't see them telling a high roller donor that he and his family have to wear masks. They may try to exempt people in suites but that still leaves a lot of people in the regular stands who are fairly big donors. Duke is not a problem since nobody goes to their FB games anyway. Except when they play UNC or NCSU or ECU.

I think the only folks that shouldn't wear masks are the ones with sensory issues, like autism or folks with impaired breathing such as COPD, asthma, etc. but then, those folks need to be staying at home for their welfare. I know of no religion that bans face masks, although Raleigh's rules permit that exemption.

Got my test in Cary . Drive through , waited about 5 minutes. Muslims make women wear face masks in some countries like Saudi Arabia. And of course many of them cover their hair.

there is no religion I can think of that bans face coverings, but I can certainly name some that absolutely permit!

I believe many states have mask bans in public because of robberies. There is an exception for kids on Halloween. Obviously nobody is enforcing those laws now. Went to Catholic church as a kid and they strongly suggested women wear hats or a scarf on their hair for mass. I guess a woman forgot one Sunday so she put a tissue on her head.

More cases in NC in the past 7 days than all of Canada in the last 16 days.

I really do think mask compliance makes a huge difference. I'd say above 60% compliance in my area.

Mask compliance nowhere near 60% in my observation. Let’s see what happens tomorrow when the mandatory masks (with no penalty for non-compliance) go into effect in Raleigh and Knightdale. Durham has had mandatory mask wearing for a while and the number of new cases really hasn’t changed that much.

From what I've seen blue color job people are not fans of masks unless their job makes them wear one. Had a house inspection and the main inspector had a mask but the HVAC guy did not. Even some stores don't require workers to wear a mask like Lowes. Some wear them anyway. Costco requires masks of everyone in the building. I think H-T requires employees to wear a mask. Food Lion does not.

Orange County required masks county-wide (Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Hillsborough, plus surrounds) beginning last Friday.

I live in downtown Raleigh and mask compliance has been low among my high-rise neighbors as they come and go, much less out on the street where visitors mix with residents. We do have a one-household or no more than two non-household riders policy for the elevators.

Elskling and I are wearing one at all times outside our door until we are in the car and there is always a folded paper towel in my pocket for touch surfaces.

Was at the N.C. coast the last couple of weeks and OMG. Probably about 20% of folks had a mask (max). I honestly believe that if you started seeing masks with guns, deer, fish, Budweiser or Jim Beam on them, instead of masks that resemble something from Greg’s Anatomy, you might increase usage in some of these rural areas. I know you can order special masks but I would blanket the Neuse Sports Shop with them! Sounds stupid but I swear I think it would help. My contribution. You’re welcome. LOL.

I'm not sure it's even 20% in Morehead City, etc. We've been living at our house on the lower Neuse across from Oriental and having to go to Morehead, Beaufort and Havelock for groceries, pharmacy, etc. and especially Lowes Home Imp. for a project of adding a 4-season semi-outdoor new room. At Lowes, employees are required to have masks but often have them dangling. And almost none of the customers have them. At Harris-Teeter the employees are required as well as Lowes Foods and most customers wear them there but almost nowhere else.

So hard to find useful data on this. In some areas there are zero cases and in others there’s tons. Maybe some related to masks but that doesn’t seem to explain it either.

so how do we explain that they’ve only had 4 total cases in MHC if masks work? Plus that number has been stuck at 4 for weeks on WRAL.
I’m not being critical of your post just asking.
I think it’s hard to find relevant data on this stuff. Where is a number of current cases by location instead of total since the beginning?
There’s a lot more close contact in places like Raleigh than at some of the coast.

Because while masks reduce the likelihood of transmission, they aren't the only factor? Lack of large superspreader events, how businesses and restaurants choose to operate, whether people are outdoors more where transmission seems to be lower, that area's ability to contact trace, etc.
