For Borje - The Toronto Maple Leafs 2023 Stanley Cup Champions Thread

Thought Brodie was actually awesome. Tampa seemed to be targeting him physically from game 1. Didn’t back down at all and Totally shut down the big guns.

10th in xGA/60 round 1 despite the usage.

Also, neither team generated much offensively. So while those xgf numbers don’t look great they understate how good Brodie/McCabe were defensively. Think they were on the ice for one ES goal all series.

Well Brodie was at 54xgf% thats great for his usage.

This is the problem in the cap world and why its designed as it is, every team needs that guy. The "if we just had a <insert position here> we would be even better".

But dang man, buckle up. You thought first round nerves were bad? Whoo boy just wait.
Was never nervous!

So now that the first round is safely over, and there's no longer any chance of him being the guy to single-handedly beat us in game seven---how fucking awful was that Tanner Jeannot trade for Tampa?

A former 1st round pick + 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th round picks in exchange for Jeannot, and this dude gave them one goal and four points in 20 regular-season games and zero points in three playoff games before being healthy scratched for the last couple games of the series.

Thank god Tampa didn't put that huge pile of assets towards a deadline acquisition that was actually good.
Literally unbelievable. I had to check online to see if it really was that many picks. How did Nashville have the guts to even ask for that, not to mention TB agreeing to pay it??

I'm going to bet that the ask was 2 1sts and Tampa negotiated down to that.

Is that really down? I think I’d have preferred to give two 1sts rather than one former 1st and a whole draft.

Draft pick value chart breaks it down like this:

2 1sts (approx 15-20th overall): 1700-2000 points
Jeannot Package(roughly assuming 20, 52, 84, 116, 148): 1496 points

and yes, a lot of teams use charts like these when determining draft pick value, so it's a pretty good guide of how most clubs make these decisions. Especially a club like Tampa, which is known for being pretty data driven.
