For Borje - The Toronto Maple Leafs 2023 Stanley Cup Champions Thread

Like mine better. Have the personnel for two super lines - put them together and LEAN on them. The big boys have to get us out of this and I'm sick of Jarnfoots stupid fucking invisible face.

What a joke. Nobody's scoring and he just says "lets give it another whirl I guess".

Get a bit creative FFS. Didn't Willy win WC MVP playing the left side? Put him there and tell him that's what you want to see. Turn him loose.

Move JT to the wing because he isn't hacking it. Make it the right side - guy can still shoot it so give him a better angle. Stack O'Rielly's wingers to make up for his lack of speed.

Bunting-Matthews-Tavares
Nylander-ROR-Marner (Tell Marner if he doesn't fucking simplify and start going to the net you'll tell Paul)
Kerfoot-Kampf-Acciari
4th line - who cares

Top two lines get 23 minutes each

Give the Panthers a different look to gameplan on if nothing else. Game planning against us really isn't that hard.

- The blueline is fairly slow and doesn't move the puck well, get the puck behind them and force them to make plays without time. Dump and chase works way too well against them.

- They don't chase transition opportunities, so pinch heavy to keep plays alive in the ozone

- The forward group doesn't shoot the puck outside of non danger areas so let them live in non danger areas and funnel them up the boards to the blueline, the defenders will not shoot the fucking puck, let them rag it around the outside until they lose it. This is where they will burn us if it happens.

- Will not flash different line looks very often, so after you get your matchups established, feel free to take a nap.

Moving Nylander off PP1 for ROR was such an obviously dumb move from the outset, especially since it meant like zero PP time for Willy.
Wouldn't have minded if it was temporary to send a msg to Willy when he was taking an on-ice vacation own the stretch. But ya, not having a 40 goal almost 90 point guy on PP1 is pretty fucking stupid.

yep.

Barkov-Ekblad is hard matched on the Matthews line, and it's working.

make them choose one.

All it takes is one of them, either of them to catch a heater because they're in time and space more often and it changes the team entirely.

Sheldon's approach has been that he expects Matthews-Marner to carry the team against Barkov, who is also a top 5 two way centre and a hard matchup for anyone.

to be fair, I'd expect them to carry the team against Barkov and any matchup too.

but I would also have lots of confidence in either one of them exploiting the non-barkov matchups, and what we're doing ain't working.

a) bitch mitch is bitch, or
b) trying to get that underdog us against the world attitude going, but a little late.

Sure, but there's much better odds of it being a coin flip or a wash than getting them out there are any other line. That's kind of the coaches job at the end of the day, find ways to put players in the best positions to succeed. Having your two best players hard matched against Barkov when playing an otherwise defensively challenged team isn't the best position to succeed.
