The Canes gave Paquette permission to talk to other teams before Wed?

Paquette was actually one of the Canes most disappointing forwards last season. Really all he contributed was bad penalties. His acquisition from Ottawa by the Canes was exciting at the time, but he didn't deliver anything near what he did for Tampa. He just took up space.

Those rules aren't a thing except for official purposes. Ever wonder how so many complex deals get announced at 12:01 PM on deadline day? Because those deals were hashed out long before they are announced. You can't consummate a trade or signing in 2 minutes, even one as basic as Paquette's probably is.

Face it, if there's a francophone player who goes to the Habs without kicking up a fuss you know he has no leverage and probably isn't that good. Anyone with options steers clear.

Is this where you bitch about a depth player making under league minimum?

Wasn't a free agency discussion window introduce in the CBA in 2013? I think it's like 5 to 7 days before free agency, players can talk to other teams. The reason they added this is because it was happening anyway and it was hard to control and enforce so they decided to make it official and legal now.

Alec Martinez is re-signing with VGK.

Sam Bennett (RFA) has signed a four-year, $17.6 million deal with the Panthers.

I’ve said it before but bears repeating, Habs would be well served to bring Emilie Castonguay (Paquette & Lafreniere’s agent) into the fold - there’s a potential Julien Brisebois in the making....still a ways away but a qualified talent w potential to groom for a future GM role
