The end of faggot era hockey is quickly approaching...only a matter of time before Dubas gets canned IMO and with it will come a full frontal assault by the old guard to banish the analytics types to the nether sphere.

You need to find a balance between having skill and will to make the playoffs and then hope your roster is built for 4 rounds of attrition .

I can see Drouin being proposed in a package for Seth Jones - who’s apparently very close to Weber and views him as his father figure

For all his faults Drouin does possess skill and CBJ definitely would be a good match

MB got a lot of flak during the season for going against the trend and putting up this built for playoffs roster. We barely made it through the regular season but looks like he was right about his roster and the playoffs. It's not luck or fluke or Covid, the team is playing great.

As part of their requirements, the 30 teams participating in the Seattle Kraken Expansion Draft must expose two forwards and one defenseman that are under contract for the 2021-22 season. These players are required to have played 40 games in the 2020-21 season or have 70 or more NHL games over the 2019-20 & 2020-21 seasons combined. Similarly, teams must expose a goalie that is either under contract in 2021-22 or a restricted free agent following the 2020-21 season.

Worth noting, we highly anticipate that the games played requirements for forwards and defensemen will be adjusted down due to the 2019-20 season being abbreviated and the likelihood that the 2020-21 season will also be shorter than the usual 82 games.

We can protect Chairot instead of Weber.
Chairot come cheap, well he will probably earn more than his current contract but no where close to Weber.
But, knowing Habs and if you don't protect your C, not sure what kind of the message you are sending to your players..

If not make Anderson unprotected.

As for the future, Habs have a ton of picks for this draft (bargain leverage for US teams looking to dump players due to salaries), at least $10M in cap space freeing up even if they reup Danault @ $1.5M additional & Lekh/Armia...all in a suppressed spending market

Most importantly w Caufield in the lineup all season, Habs would likely have had 5-additional OT points minimum, and don’t discount continued regular season growth of Suzuki, KK and Romanov
