GDT #47 - 2024/1/18 - Old Baby Bro

How can the habs be a “baby bro” when the franchise is older than the Leafs?

Had the discussion with my habs fan buddy earlier tonight. Is playoffs this year better than another small sell off and a good draft pick? Does the current habs have enough highend pieces to move forward for the next decade (as would be the goal of a big rebuild)
Playoffs is never worth it if you have no chance of winning it all. I don't blow up a rebuild just so I can maybe squeak into the 2nd wildcard berth. If you're not a Cup contender you should be a seller at the deadline.

No. It isn't. But I'm a fan and I can't root against my team. I can accept the losing sure and I think they need to sell as well regardless of standings. It's a tough scenario for a fan but I've enjoyed the run.

I can honestly say that I'm never nervous with Dobes in net. He's so calm and didn't scramble around like Monty. Montembeault is an average goalie at best and when Canada picked him to represent I took it as an indictment on Canadian goaltending because he's nothing special. Needs a lot of run support to win and he's been lucky to get that recently.
This is the realism my buddy didn't give. The habs right now without another year of growth may end up being the redwings of rebuilds.

Dobes is a 23yr old goalie with a .907sv% in the AHL i don't know that 5gms of .963 in the nhl is sustainable.
No way it's sustainable but Montembeault has too many breakdowns and gets tired quickly. He's not an NHL starter, he's a tandem guy at best and is simply the placeholder until Fowler arrives.

My AI algo is forecasting a significant dip to a career .915 mark over 14 seasons, mostly as a 1B type
