It’s gonna be super weird to hear Habs fans talk about Gorton’s moves going forward presuming he moves in an analytics discussion if they’re still getting hung up on paces?
 
His defensive impact isn't great, but it never was. Too bad WIlly's development went more "lets get breakaways" than Marner/Matthews, because that would have been a real easy switch.

while I support this in theory, I think we will have a hard time icing a competitive roster paying three wingers basically $7m each and two of them close to $11m. Likely guts our centre and/or forward depth.

Yeah I mean I'm not expecting them to be able to afford a legit 2C to be able to move JT to the wing anytime soon. But even if they just replace Kerf's spot with an elite 2 way LW that would probably work just fine. Their 2nd line is supposed to be their second super elite #1 line but they just get caved in on too many matchups for my liking. Still a very very good line and we're spoiled and very lucky... But it should be better and more consistent especially when they don't get the toughs, in particular on the road.
 
They are still an elite offensive line, they are just average, or slightly below defensively. But given our first line is just plain elite, and our 3rd line is elite defensively, I don't have too much problem with the forward group.

Upgrading on Kerfoot with a high end player like Pavelski, Hertl, Giroux would be a nice luxury though, and is very possible.
 
Ya I want an elite line there in all areas. But I guess nothing matters if they're getting Sad Jack. And also pointless if they continue to play like an average team as they do every Feb-Apr (caveat: not verified and may be inaccurate as a result of severe PTSD distorting my reality).
 
Tavares has definitely been looking less than himself the last few weeks, but so has Willy. There's no need to start worrying about contract and age for one more than the other, especially since while sucking they've managed to stay at a PPG-ish pace. It's called a slump, and Tavares looks ready to bust out of it in a big way, if you ask me. He's getting really nice looks suddenly but just getting no luck, very similar to how he started out this year. They'll both be back to normal real soon.

It is the nature of a Leafs fan to panic as soon as anything starts going wrong. Every single team has this shit too, but they just don't have fans who spend half their lives thinking about them.
