GDT #50: Cunt, Sexy and Cock vs BJs

I just hope they don't show patience on double down on this tandem.

Could give a fuck if Mrazek moves on and comes back from the dead next year its just not working here

What? The raps have won 48+ games (approx on pace again this year) in every season since 2013 but one.

Meant all the losing in the post season, some more sad losses where media/raps fans were expecting changes. From memory media was mad after losing 4-0 to bucks and cavs in back to back years before we broke through for the championship. Made people forget about the 2016 run and highlight the 2014 and 2015 first round exits.

Could have been easy for MLSE to make changes at that point to management, instead it was just the coach.

So looks like the narrative has gone back to our defence sucking shit; man I hate Toronto sports media, bunch of clowns

Raps got outta the first round in 5 straight years, including a championship.

Talking before the championship. There was a lot of disappointment in not getting further. MLSE could have made more changes - and didn’t. We had the nucleus in place for the five years or so and couldn’t push through and losing badly in the second round in back to back years…I don’t think it would surprise anyone if our GM was let go.

The leafs are worse in not having three years of getting out of the first round like the raps. But we’re coming off a full rebuild, so not an exact comparable. Point is, MLSE has shown patience with a high performing regular season team that didn’t live up to playoff expectations before.

Nah. Jacks play is just as big of a problem. We’re not talking about an iffy stretch, we’re talking about toskala level play.

This is why the two goalie system is by far the best bet for all but maybe 2-3 teams around the league. You have to expect that your goalie is going to suck for a stretch or two and that just costs you points. Goalies have outsized influence on losses. Pete was the guy we brought in because we knew Jack was inexperienced, an unknown commodity as a 1A, etc. Him being unplayable is a pretty big hit.

Honestly it annoys me more that we just haven't played well since the allstar break. Red hot going in, then scraped a gutsy but undeserved win against the Canes in the first game back and now lost 5 of 7 since.

A mediocre 50.6xgf% at even strength since the break.

I don't think the Nerd gets fired this season for anything short of nagasaki on ice happening. I do expect the directive to be handed down that it's time to make significant changes depending upon how it all shakes out though. My money would be on asking Tavares to waive his NMC and move him to a location of his choice though. Short of the mythical "Connor asks out" and we trade Mitch ++ for him, Tavares is the obvious one of the 4 to try to move, even if it's for less player value in return.

Can’t chalk this up to fatigue. They had a month off, a relaxed schedule due to the Olympic planning and the all star break.

I wouldn't have ever blamed it on fatigue. Maybe even the opposite - he was best when he was playing a ton and in a groove.

It sounds nice, but not sure what team will absorb that contract without us giving up assets or retaining cap. Makes it even harder to fit him in somewhere with him being able to nix the few teams that might be willing to take on that cap hit.

I also don’t see Tavares waiving his NMC.

Not when he left money on the table to come here, took all the abuse from Isles fans, started a family with his wife, etc.

For better or worse, I think Tavares & the Leafs are stuck with each other.

Giroux's game was falling off around JT's current age (maybe a little younger). The solution? They put him on the wing and he was able to bust out several more elite years. I think we're getting to that point with JT. Would be nice to pull the trigger on a 2C as JT ages because I think he would be a phenomenal winger.

if you're talking about trading Tavares its useful to note that he only makes $7.95m in real dollars the last 3 years of the deal.

But I do think it's kind of funny that we feel we need to jettison a guy who's at a 30gl/80pt pace (and has been at that pace over his first four years here too), right around #15 amongst centers in both samples. Also ranks around 15th in GSVA. And he's doing that without getting true top line minutes, too.

This year: 18:13, 29gl/79pt pace, 53.1xgf%
Leafs career: 18:50, 36gl/80pt pace, 53.6xgf%
