How can you start talking firing when Campbell was literally the best Leafs goalie ever through the first 50-60 games of his career? You can't just bank on guys falling off cliffs midseason suddenly.
The Mrazek signing wasn't great because of the money. But as a backup to a lights-out Campbell, he was fine. Can't look at things now and say, oh, but Campbell is actually shit so that was dumb because we needed a 1A. And Campbell isn't shit. It's a bad slump probably fueled by confidence issues. But if we have to rely on the backup because he can't get it together, then Mrazek isn't that guy. And you can't hold Dubey accountable really because I don't know any team that wins a Cup with their backup goalie unless it's a young heir apparent who was just waiting for their opportunity.
Campbell is 30 years old and has never been a starter until this season. If he goes on to become the greatest leaf goalie ever then Dubas gets the credit, and if he can't handle the job while being our only option, then Dubas gets the blame.
We're 4 years in to our winning window with Dubas at the helm, we've never made it out of the first round, and everything is riding on a 30 year old first time starter with confidence issues and whoa oh oh its Mrazek.
If he hasn't fixed it he should be toast.
