They're an elite second line away from me not being afraid of any team. They shouldn't need a third wheel but they clearly do.

That one timer should be saved every time. Only reason that corner was open was because kallgren was too deep in his net.

The tip was crazy though, agreed.

But you’re right he could have been out further
 
Their first and third lines are so consistently elite. It's a shame that the 11m dollar center and 7m dollar winger can't combine to make an elite 2nd line.

As you said, they need help.

Robertson was looking helpful. Not sure why he isn't playing. Kase with another head smashe.

Mikky or Engvall could be huge on that 2nd line. Maybe that's the answer and just try to find another guy like them to take their place on the third line.

Giroux would've been nice.

Dubie has to see that we need offensive help.

Willy isn't playing. Tavares can do better if he didn't have to create everything on his own.

Getting the most out of JT seems to be a problem. Nylander isn't the the right fit and the coach doesn't have any other ideas. but luckily for them, it's pretty far off the media radar that they're paying 11 million for 8 million worth of player right now. they're too busy talking about toughness and the Leafs "terrible defence".

Salaries are massive in a capped environment, massive. You can't throw a tantrum and hand wave away 11 million dollars

As for JT could do better if he didn't have to do everything himself...lol, the only time the line looks useful is when Willy finds space.

Because then there are two players playing. Willy is playing like he's sick or badly injured. Avoiding contact, declining board battles, not aggressively going for loose pucks. Matthews needs Marner to play and be effective too. Every center needs their wingers to be on, or they're not producing.

And the salaries are irrelevant for the purposes of this discussion. They're getting paid what they're getting paid. It has nothing to do with how they're playing right now.
