The struggling Canes meet the struggling Avs.

After Tuesday’s debacle, RBA said the team stunk. It’s hard to argue with that. The Canes won’t skate this morning, so the lines will start as they practiced yesterday. New guy Tokarski will be on door opening duties.

Svechnikov - Aho - Roslovic
Robinson - Drury - Necas
Martinook - Staal - Jarvis
Carrier - Kotkaniemi - Blake

Slavin - Burns
Orlov - Chatfield
Gostisbehere - Walker

The Avs are 6-4 in their last 10 and sit 4th in the Central with 28 points in 26 games. They’re coming off a 5-4 win in Buffalo where they gave up 4 goals in the first but scored the next 5, including 4 in the 3rd. MacKinnon had 3 points and moved into a 3 way tie at the top of the league with Necas and Kaprizov. Old friend Calvin de Haan had 2 assists, including on the game winner. Mikko Rantanen and Cale Makar are also averaging better than a point per game, Makar leads all dmen in goals and assists. It’s good that they have all that firepower because their defense is awful. They’re 31st in goals against per game at 3.73. Alexandar Georgiev has started 16 games, he’s at 3.54/.867. He gave up all 4 Buffalo goals, on only 8 shots, and was pulled with just over 8 minutes left in the 1st. New guy Scott Wedgwood relieved him and had 22 saves. The Avs PP is good, 5th in the league, just behind the Canes. But they’re not good on the PK, 27th at 73.1%. They also can’t win a faceoff, 31st at 43.7%

Red jerseys tonight. FanDuel for TV.

Taking the over tonight seems like the best bet.
Not that I encourage such activities, but yeah ... this. Colorado defense and goaltending has gone all wonky and Carolina has started leaking odd man rushes again. This sets up for a pinball score.

The professionals agree but they're making you reach for it; the O/U is unanimously set at 6.5 at the 3 books I might be a member of, along with the CBJ-EDM game. Still tempting, and along with anytime goals from Nachos and NateMack might be an interesting SGP.

I'll miss this one....headed to SC for my niece's wedding. Hope the Canes show up tonight.

I can easily see this game ending at 4-3 or 5-2. Easy.

How about trying not to get scored on in the first minute for starters...oh, and how about finishing your checks and getting back to the analytical darling stuff that makes this team tick. The Athletic had a tidbit this morning on the past three games being some of the worst metrics for the Canes in several years in the RBA era.

Headed to Roxboro for Mexican food and drinking with the horse farm crowd (and a designated driver) tonight. Please make some noise for me at the game.
I'd love to see Carolina get back in the saddle and stomp my Dad's favorite team the Avs. Carolina seems to struggle in Denver, so it's time to return the favor.

i missed the 3 games during Thanksgiving week. And I missed Tuesday night too. And I’m really not looking forward to going tonight, it almost feels like I’m dragging myself to a game during Mo2.0/Mueller/Peters…just blah, no expectations of being competitive.

Whaddaya mean? You missed them all... so just say they never happened and you're all good!

Tonight’s officials. It’s the Wes McCauley show!

Referees:
Jordan Samuels-Thomas #42, Wes McCauley #4

Linesmen:
Julien Fournier #56, Scott Cherrey #50

Samuels-Thomas is working a split AHL/NHL schedule. McCauley is not. But the Canes are 4-0 with Wes since 2023-24.
