GDT | Game 15 | vs The Evil Empire | Saturday, November 9th | 7:00 PM EST

Because many people, including some here, grossly overrated the players on this team and really thought they might have a chance to push for the playoffs. That's why people like Arpon are starting to lash out.

It also doesn't help that the top of this franchise sold a false bill of goods when they said that they wanted to be "in the mix".

Don't lie to us. The team's bad and minimal effort was done to improve it. Just own it and be honest.
Yeah this was the worst thing to do, too many people bought it.

They made a minor error , be in the mix for a top 5 pick

For me it's a double edged sword. We need more talent in the pipeline. We have much more than 2 years ago but need even more so you might as well let them finish dead last. They're not challenging for anything (sorry Sal) and bringing in a new coach now won't do any good for the ultimate goal. Finishing bottom ten as opposed to bottom five means less chance at real talent.

I bitch about Marty because he's beyond his depth, HuGo never put the man in a position to win. Never gave him a seasoned mentor as associate coach to learn from, especially on how to pull up out of a nose dive, never gave him a good defensive coach (haven't really had one since Laperriere) and just gave him the reins and said have fun.

I don't blame Marty, I like the guy, I blame HuGo. It's because of this that I think it was part of the plan. Marty was the distraction while they tore it down. The problem with distractions is that they eventually wear off and now we have a train wreck to watch as the distraction instead.

Keep Marty until the summer but for the sake of the players and franchise, get a real coach next summer. I think Pascal Vincent will be that guy.
I think all of this is fair.

Another problem? We're following the exact same blueprint as Ottawa did: Our young guys will figure it out, we don't really need veterans.

I've been a staunch proponent for years about this point: I don't like handing out spots to young players. The young players need to be head & shoulders above the veteran for me to give the spot. Ottawa's been doing this for years and they're spinning their wheels.

I didn’t buy the mix, barring a miracle, but I was expecting them to be better than last year.

NHL is not an easy league just take a look at how many of the recent young draftees are doing :Cutter Gauthier, McGorarty, Fantilli, Carlsson etc

People whine about Slaf but anyone take a look at Wyatt Johnston and his 6pts in 13GP?

Season is a marathon not a sprint…du calme…
NHL is the worst sport by far to rebuild a gut job

Thats why retooling every year is the way to go

Regimes are too scared to accept off season reality and just kick the fucken can down the road

You need to be ruthless and turn over players when needed

Fucken marathon is over for this year , team needs 80-85 points over 67 games , not happening

We have plenty of veterans, they're just not very good (Anderson, Dvorak, Savard, Armia, Gallagher(he's been fine so far), Matheson(at the moment) . . .

No one, with the exception of Sal, was ever talking about ACTUALLY being in the playoffs. That's not what "in the mix" really ever meant. It was really about sniffing around the outer edges.

I expected improvement, sure. But I didn't have unrealistic expectations like Suzuki suddenly being on pace for 100 points, or Montembaeult to be a 915 save % goalie. I mentioned it over the summer, even in the best case scenario and everything went great, how many more points could this team realistically get, maybe 8?

It's only 15 games, but we've gotten worse in both goals for and goals against than what we had last year.

Goals for this season (2.6GF) compared to last season (2.82GF). A -0.22 difference.

Goals against, on the other hand... Last year we were at 3.42GA / game. This year, we're dead last in the NHL at 4.06GA / game. A -0.64 is a lot.

Hiring Robidas, a guy who was a dumpster fire in his own zone, to coach the defense never made any sense to me. Hal Gill or Craig Ludwig would be better mentors than fucking Robidas.

All I expected was some internal growth and a few prospects knocking on the door , and your right about 8 points so we look respectable
and not be out of it by January

To play devil's advocate, he hasn't been given much.

There isn't a single d-man in this team that's properly slotted, except maybe Xhekaj/Struble as d-man 6-7.

In an ideal world, Matheson & Hutson shouldn't be playing 24+ minutes / game and Guhle should be playing 18 instead of 22.

The Reinbacher injury is a killer.

They choose the ice time, not the players
