Well your kid has a better chance of seeing them win it all in 5 years if they tank hard now. We tried 30 years of management that made squeaking into the last playoff spot the metric for success and we saw what that got us. We either suffer badly for a short time and then become elite or suffer slightly less and be mediocre for 30 more years.
How many years do you figure you've got left? Shouldn't take more than 5 or so if HuGo manages the tank properly.My kid would have rather seem the win with her pops. At least that run got her wearing Habs gear.

A Cup is a good year, anything else is a pathetic failure and people need to lose their jobs. That's what a Cup contender does. Playoff contenders blow their brains out at the deadline trying to squeak into 8th place so that they can make some extra money off of their 2 playoff gates.
5 years is incredibly optimistic
I just want a team that can beat any other team consistently. You'll have your down nights but playing a high tempo structured game like the lightning and Bruins would be nice for awhile.
