We finished 3rd last in the league when they got hired so building through the draft was reasonable but then we finished 4th in the league the next year, the went to the semifinals then 2nd in the league. Those 3 years were our window somehow and we were still saddled with bad contracts from Gauthier. He should have been more aggressive in hindsight, especially with the 2013 draft when they had many picks.

he got Vanek in 2014 and then lost his balls. His 2017 trade deadline was a disaster.

Without looking, Dwight King, Steve Ott, some dude from the Oilers sounding like Davidson (for Desharnais), another Swedish sounding name like Martinsen or something, I think Nesterov from TB and if my memory serves me we got Jordie Benn the same year, by far the best of the group.

Davidson was a little earlier in the year and I remember thinking he was shit when I saw him live, and was told you can never have enough depth on defence ;)
