GDT JAN 18 MTL @ TOR

Don't forget the first ten games of the season. We're likely playing at a 100+ point pace without him in the lineup. And he makes 5+ million over the next 7 years.

#crippling

The contract is a complete nightmare, even if he plays at the level he was at prior to signing it. If he keeps playing like this, I don't see how it can measure up as better against any other totally shit contract.

Are you seriously trying to compare the shambolic contract of a third-liner to a terrible contract for an incredibly below-average starting goaltender?

At least Clarkson won't be losing games for us on his own. Positionally-speaking, Mason's contract is arguably far worse, insofar as the potential for negative impact it has on the Flyers directly.

As horrible as Clarkson's contract is and its a disgusting one, overpaying that type of money for a shitty #1 goalie is far worse! Mason will be asked to play the majority of the games and given how shaky he's been its' not necessairly a good thing he plays many games, the worst Clarkson can do is take a stupid penalty (and yes he does do that) which could cost us a game or two at most during the year, but it hails in comparison to how many games Mason will cost the flyers.

Well, the thing is, the Leafs have looked a hell of a lot better with Clarkson out of the lineup than they have with him in. Calling him a decent 3rd liner is a bit of a stretch IMO.

The Flyers won't be afraid to make moves if Mason doesn't work out. He played at about a .925 over his first 40 games or so with the team.. he may be dropping now but maybe they believe he will level out at .910-.915. And if not, who cares.. it's 3 years and only 4 million. Either find a cheap goalie to complement him or buy him out. With the Clarkson thing, the Leafs are ****ed whether they keep him or buy him out.

Holmgren bought out Bryzgalov and that didn't sit too well with Snyder, you do realize Holgrem now answers directly to Snider personally about every move now right? Mason will not be being bought out, as for trading him well good luck finding a sucker willing to take on a 3 year deal worth $4M per, ain't gonna happen. Flyers are stuck with Mason for the next 3 years, they're only option is bring in a guy who can help share the role with him, actually that's why a guy like Riemer would be the perfect fit in Philly.

THe homer in me still holds out hope for Clarkson.

Hopefully when Bolland comes back they gain some chemistry.

If Bolland were smart he'd shut it down for the rest of the season. I saw a video of him skating on his own and the guy looked like he was in a hell of a lot of pain, there is no need for him to rush back. Look at Karlsson he had a similar injury came back far too soon and hasn't been the same player since going down. I think Bolland should take the rest of the season off, work on healing his injury and in the offseason rehab like a beast and come back to camp better then ever, why these guys stupidly put their health on the line is beyond me at times.

It's amazing what selective hearing will do for comprehension. Healy blew the leafs quite often. Surprised you missed it.

It's funny that the other 6 Canadian fanbases cannot accept HNIC might actually root for them. That's what's selective.

HNIC blew the Canucks through the entire playoffs in 2011' and their fans were sending hate mail to CBC.

HNIC LOVES the money the Leafs make them. They crap on the team itself non-stop. Contrary to popular belief, showing the Leafs the most doesn't make thewm homers.

I see this one as a big, big test for Jonathan Bernier. His numbers show it, but this is one of those big game showdowns with another elite goalie that could really start to cement his reputation.

Bernier
.909
Season = .926

Price
.862
Season = .924

He outplayed Price in the game, and as a result now has superior #'s on the season....did he pass "the test" or did he need to be elite in this specific game against Price?

Did he at least move you off your stance of believing he's another Toskala?

His team bailed him out.

As for the superior "#'s" ... incorrect. Bernier has one number 'superior' (by two tenths of a per cent). By all other goaltender numbers, Price beats Bernier.

Although there's only one measure goaltender performance for some people, but it's still just a single number.

This is one thing I can't understand. The media has been blowing price non stop as the best goalie in the world and how he's on his game, all because he allowed 4 goals on 40 shots against the sens. That is all I've been hearing.

Bernier has faced 40 shots pretty much every game.

It's unreal how much love goes prices way. And the leafs are constantly talked about as being 100%goalie dependent and are lucky to be where they are. WTF

Well, after the brouhaha over Subban's celebration against Ottawa, and Subban's puzzling decision last night to taunt the Leaf bench after a 1-1 goal scored on the power-play in the first period, JVR demonstrated the proper way to respond to that kind of thing:

yep, the leafs won last night in spite of bernier.

The Leafs looked like last years team for the first time all season.

having kadri competing in both zones and working the puck deep into the offensive zone rather than pulling up on the half boards and then getting pushed off the puck made an enormous difference. that was the kadri we had almost all year last year. that was the first time he's played like that in months and maybe all season.

and that play on plekanec behind the net in the last minute... we need more of that. broke the cycle right up.

I was worried though that he was going to give that one extra cross check and get the penalty. And it was close... he nails Pleks clean and then when he's down he gives him some shots that some refs would call. Luckily the ref who was right there said nothing, as Pleks was giving it back. But that could have easily been a penalty call because of his reputation.

If I were Carlyle I show Kadri those hits (the one on Markov was amazing) and say do that, and then stop and skate away to the puck. Try to control those extra cross checks and you'll be a man my son.

he rubbed him out and then pinned him to the boards. that's how you break up the cycle. not by bumping a guy and skating away.

literally every team does this, regularly, against hte leafs. their dmen and centres hit the leafs forwards, and pin them against the boards.

the leafs centres and D spend way too much time chasing guys around behind the net. that is how you get cycled on, not how you break it up.

it's why, i.e., gleason is better at breaking up the cycle than gunnarsson. because he does this, and gunnarsson doesn't.
