GDT - Let the season begin | Leafs vs. Habs 7:00PM EST SNET

Bernier is a least a goaltender, possibly, are we still debating on this board whether Reimer is better, or even an NHL goaltender? Really?

No, we're not, actually.
And if you truly were hanging around while your supposed impostor was posting, you'd know that.
Now back to your usual calf-bashing.

Bernier is a least a goaltender, possibly, are we still debating on this board whether Reimer is better, or even an NHL goaltender? Really? Schenn I hope to god has been put to bed, Reimer is his clone brother. A guy, just gracefully heading to palooka ville. Guy just doesn't have it, never really did for any length of time. What is the fascination with this guy? He stinks. In the bright lights of Toronto or anywhere else in the NHL. Guy has a fork in him, leave it be. Seems like a nice guy, hope he has put away a ton.

Not a huge fan of Riemers (people know where I stand with him) but how can you sit there and say he's flat out worse then Bernier? Bernier prior to coming here was never a #1 goalie, he has attention span issues, doesn't have the fortitude to be a # and has done **** all since comng here... why everyone sucks his dick is beyond me.

I don't get why Babcock would decide to go with Bernier flat out, I thought he was trying to get away from that type of thing... anyways IMO what he should have done is flip a coin and whoever got heads played the opener and then bounce back/forth until one of them shows they can actually be a legit goalie.

Welcome back you old coot!

I still take Reimer, personally.

Never been a Bernier fan and tonight didn't help.

For whatever reason, I feel that Reimer will steal the job under Babcock.

Bernier was a beast till he got injured and then was rushed back into the fold. Neither would fetch much on the trade market I am afraid. Its really not worth arguing about, you have to almost believe that every single Leaf save Rielly is on display and eventually for sale.

Leafs have to stick to their plan, which is create a phenomenal program down at the ECHL and AHL levels and build up from there.

Its going to be very tough soon, on prospects in Leaf land, cause there are going to be tons of them.

Up on the NHL level, get as many pieces of meat that have some juice left in them, like Brad Boyes, develop them and discard at the deadline. Rinse Repeat.

Cannot believe Babcock signed up for this, as its got to be very, very tough to be a great coach and thrust into that kind of three year path. But I suppose he was suddenly available and Shanahan didn't want to miss out on having him.

But lets face it, even the most hardened Leaf fan knows that if Babcock were to be able to get this roster into the playoffs it would be coach of the year for the guy.

I bet he was. Kills me to see my Rexdale bro in that sweater.

I wanted to see who the Leafs drafted instead....Toronto's first pick that year (2007) was in the 3rd round - 74th overall. Hard to imagine these days.

Correct on all points, and it is with unadulterated joy that I welcome back the real teeder, it has been far too long and the reads will be most enjoyable.

Babcock knew he was getting into a tire fire, we're already seeing some results with the increased possession game.
Our goalies are both meh-ish. Bernie is a shrimp on ice leaving his upper net open occasionally. The Stormin' Mormon is probably better over short periods, but you wonder when you get to see him Hextall on the ice, or just completely lose it. His comments on goaltenders and expansion were quite telling...

Bozak is useless, don't know how we will ever be rid of him.
Was fairly impressed with Hunwick. Decent skating and adequate puck movement, was nice to see Dion get some support.
Some chippy/dirty play on both sides, could tell both teams dislike each other.
At least Friday we won't be facing Carey Price...with our lack of finish that can only be a good thing.

Sort of nice to have the teeder name have to say. I have to say I was very disappointed we didn't tank a lot sooner last year and at least get Eichel. I know most teams in our position don't tank anyways, as its not a good precedent but Buffalo sure appeared to be enjoying a good ole tank.

Marner and Strome and Hanifin? To me? Not even close to Eichel and McDavid. Shame. Marner is a jitterbug on the ice, but man, so hard to believe he will be able to do that in the NHL. Hope he can.

Don't have to argue with me on that front. In fact, I've been at an extreme on this one. I believe nearly every Leafs' win since the lock out has been meaningless and we would've been better off without it.

With the new management however, I've left the tank. I trust that Hunter and co will fill this team with so many good propects that thank is no longer necessary.

Surprisingly, the game wasn't tough to watch at all. It's almost as if Babs could find a switch and the team just played a lot better. The biggest difference was after we got the puck in our own zone, the breakout and the transition is so much more coherent.

I was especially impressed by Gardiner, Kadri and Hunwick last night. Not so pleased with Arcobello and Bernier. Bernier was better after the first soft goal, but that unfortunately was the diff vs Price last night.

Babs said there's no moral victory in hockey, and that's true. If we can keep playing like this though, we'll get some W's, and players will hopefully buy into the system and we'll play much better as a team.

The biggest thing I noticed was the team was substantially more engaged physically. No big open ice hits but players making solid checks and forcing the Habs to move the puck quickly.

Big difference from.thw last couple years when it appeared the goal was to crash into the board a ft in front of the opposition.

Sure looking like Babcock's systems will at least make the losses close.

Looking as well, like Babcock and his team have brought their subtle elements of interference from the Wings as well...

Montreal sucks at possession and scoring chance generation though.

This is a silly oversimplification.

None of those other teams, with those guys removed, go from the top of the standings straight down to the bottom.

Sorry, but your Habs are sporting an absolute joke of a roster that gets exposed for the junk it is year after year. Price is really all you got.

LOL

wtf

The biggest thing I noticed was their play in the neutral zone. admittedly based on the tiny sample size of 1 game, it's not going to be a free pass to the Leaf zone from your own blueline anymore.

I hope he does..... I still dont see what Babcock and that other goof Carlyle saw/see in him but if Babcock IS serious about his words of earning things on merit then when Riemer suits up and if he can outplay Bernier that he gets the #1 job.

Yes that is true ... we should have a better picture of where we stand after the playoff.

BTW I wonder what was the individual possession stats from last night. Interested to see how Kadri's possession stats compared with Bozak. Just watching the game seems to indicate Kadri was a lot better than Bozak in possession. The few times we couldn't get out of our zone Bozak's line was on the ice.
