Habs acquire Dvorak for 2022 1st rounder (top-10 protected) + 2024 2nd rounder

Until they resign him for $4m and he scores 50 points.
They have to qualify him at over 5- he’d reject it and sign for 4?

Also, 50 points a season? I’d give you odds he never gets there. 50 points is pretty tough and he has shown no sign that he’ll ever get there.

He might sign a long term extension for $4m per year... but not if he scores 50 points.

Canes probably would have been better off trading for Dvorak. For them the time to go for it is now. But with their offseason it might be over anyway.

They can trade for more 1st that wouldn't be affected by this trade condition.
You could always rework this deal too. Like if both picks look similar, could always flip a 3rd or something to lock this deal into one of the picks. Or your deal with whoever else you trade "whichever pick isn't in the other deal".

Can't say I've watched any Coyote hockey, or know much about Dvorek other than who he is. Big numbers in junior. Nothing remarkable in the NHL. Assume he has other things to offer. I don't have a clue if he is any good. Which goes for basically that entire Coyote team since forever...anonymous.

I guess I'll get a look at him now. I assume someone in the Habs organization has seen him play...(?)...( and if so has the capacity to judge what is being viewed)....the Kotkaniemi era was remarkably short after all, was it not?

All assuming that happens as their third line winger. And if it doesn't happen, he's still got them by the balls.

I'm leaning towards it not happening.

Quite the pressure to perform but he will be surrounded by countrymen and I read he's good friends with Aho.

I dunno, we did make him the center of an all Finnish line here.

While I think Dvorak is an upgrade on KK, I don't think he's a #2 center, at least not on a good team anyway. Like KK, I think he is what he is in terms of offensive production.

(For what it's worth, KK had better offensive production 5 on 5 last year than Dvorak)

Also, I don't think I've ever seen someone seem so indifferent when he scores goals. There's never any celebration, hardly ever any smiling, just, oh yeah this is my job.

Great post

I don't know why people are sweating the draft picks. The whole reason why we got here is because Timmins fucked up the pick and took KK instead of Tkachuk. Clearly and given our draft history over the last decade, it is clear that Timmins is incompetent when it comes to assessing talent. So keeping the picks from Carolina only ensures that Timmins will again piss them up the nearest wall. Dvorak is a known entity and can produce at least as much if not more than KK ever would for us so at worst we are no worse off.

Until we have a new front office and scouting staff I'm fine with them trading picks for established players with abandon. I have zero faith in Timmins' ability to draft competently.
