Habs acquire Dvorak for 2022 1st rounder (top-10 protected) + 2024 2nd rounder

Suzuki won’t be one the super elite mega stars with the gaudy numbers, but when he’s on the ice he’s almost always the best player in the heat of battle. It doesn’t matter who is out there.

His IQ is elite. I think he’ll win the Selke at some point.

I think his ceiling is like a Bergeron... which would be amazing. You take that as your #1 center all day long. That said, I doubt he quite gets there... but if he can be a 65 point 2 way center, I'll be pretty damn pleased.

I read an article that said if Dvorak is your #3 center then you're a cup contender. Let's go get another center.
I mean, sounds easy enough, but we're missing a #1 center. Suzuki's a #2 on a Cup Contender.

If we land Eichel, who I would give up anyone or anything not named Suzuki for, then we're halfway there.

Just to add. What we are missing is not a number 2 centre. What we are missing is a number 1 centre.
Yup.

Dvorak will be our #2 center by default.

A centerline of Eichel-Suzuki-Dvorak, though? Sign me up, we're in business.

I think that at his peak, that's what he'll be... if he's not the only one pulling his weight on the team.

Comparing any player to Bergeron is always risky because I think Bergeron should be in the conversation for the best overall 2-way forward in hockey history.

I think my offer is too low. They would probably want Guhle over Ramonov.

The only person you don’t trade is Suzuki. Defeats the purpose.

That's fair. However, being the "best 2 way forward" is sooooo subjective. Like what criteria do you use to definite a "2 way forward?" Would you consider Crosby a 2 way forward?

Yes, easily. Crosby's never won a Selke, but he's finished in the top 10 three times.

The best combination of offensive proficiency mixed with defensive responsibility. Makes me think of Carbonneau, Datsyuk, Lehtinen, Barkov, O'Reilly, etc. I think Bergeron's better defensively than all of them, and he's been offensively great for 15 of 17 seasons in the NHL.

I find it difficult to really determine who the best is.

Bergeron is probably the best balanced. Like Carbonneau or Gainey were better defensively, but obviously Bergeron was better offensively. Crosby was better offensively but Bergeron was better defensively.

I guess you'd have to have a way to really quantify how good someone is defensively. And Offensively.

Random players, off the top of my head with no research or real system...

Crosby - 95 O and 77 D - 172
Datsyk - 85 O and 85 D - 170
Bergeron - 76 O and 91 D - 167
O'Reilly - 67 O and 85 D - 152
Carbonneau - 30 O and 95 D - 125

He still needs to sharpen his defensive game , will get beat off pucks and sometimes cheats on plays

If he puts up the Bergeron offensive numbers thats great but he wont be in the same elite class in many categories

PB is as close to a perfect hockey player that ever played the game

The fact that at 36 he is still elite with no slowdown is remarkable

And the Habs passed him over. Grrr.

I can hear it now

Center depth
D mobility
Price question mark

He's not wrong. Our slow defensemen will get turnstiled or othewise fitted for clown suits by any opponent with even better than average speed. In the regular season Chariot, Petry and Edmundson won't be permitted to turn every game into a rodeo without taking costly penalties.
