Why would another team offer him, an aging asset, 5 years?
31 year old Ryan Kessler just signed a 6 year extension that starts in a year. Some team will be dumb enough to give 14 five years. I'd keep him for 3 yrs. too but he'll get a longer term than that somewhere.

You assume. If Krusty is to be believed, no team would be that silly. Point is any player is tradable, but to pretend Pleks brings no value to the team is plain dumb.

I've been saying it for a while now, if Plekanec wants anything more than 3-yrs @ $5.5M to stay, deal him now.
I suspect MB has been trying to make a "hockey trade" all summer, but no team has been willing to. Let's see if anything changes prior to game 1 of the season...
He's not assuming. It's historically proven. I think 14 brings value to the ice but not enough to let him walk for nothing.

Go back & re-read: Krusty stated Plekanec brings limited value to the "Habs at playoff time". I wouldn't have been so kind in my choice of words....

Not surprisingly you are missing the point: I don't him leaving for nothing. Keeping him for a Cup run and then losing him for nothing is a bad idea because he's not a key cog in a Cup run.

Let's keep de la Rose instead of MaxPac too, 'cuz, you know, he's 20 and MaxPac is 26 (turning 27 soon), seeing as age is everything.

I don't have an issue with trading him if you can get something good in return. My issue is with your statement that he is not a key cog in the playoffs. That's a dumb statement.

No one said anything about trading Plekanec for nothing. The whole point of the discussion, is trading Plekanec for a non-redundant asset(s) that will hell this team now and/or on the short term.
