Habs Season Thread: 2024-25 Regular Season

And what happens if a good player becomes available and we can't move because we gave a declining small forward a stupid contract? Your thinking is far too linear.

Hage can be sent to Laval. Newhook/Roy/Beck can be traded to make space if the good player is an upgrade.

He's not blocking anyone.

Absolutely not. I wouldn't have signed Marchessault at all to begin with.

In a league that's doing everything it can to get bigger, we're an already tiny team. Emphasis on getting bigger, not staying small.

4 of those guys are already there. Dach & Newhook are here too.

Demidov will be here in 15 months.

Hage should probably be here & Beck's a fourth line center.

Even in the best of scenarios, none of those players are getting blocked by Marchessault and there aren't any other realistic players who are in the pipeline that will make the NHL.

The argument that we didn't sign JM to term because he'd be blocking young player is factually inaccurate.

In the best of scenarios in three yearsd:

Caufield-Suzuki-Slaf
Demidov-Dach-Marchessault
Hage-Newhook-Roy
X-Beck-Y

Marchessault's not blocking anyone.
I think it's more about the cap space than roster spots.

Maybe, but even then, by year 4-5 of JM's hypothetical deal, Newhook/Armia/Savard/Gallagher/Anderson are all off the books. Guhle's making $6M+ and Slaf $7.6M. If Dach's good, probably around $7M. Reinbacher will get his second deal & Demidov is one year away from his second deal.

Add that to the cap going up, I don't think JM would have prevented us from doing anything.

Anyway, it's a moot point because he dodged that bullet.

I don't like he was even in on it

Reason Marchy wasnt signed ...........HUGO doesnt want another shit contract on the books

Hughes being a former agent understands values on contracts and team structure , unlike the drunken sailors we saw today

Plus this fuck the media and fans thing is awesome

Dach might play 7 games a year by then , baby steps

I'm loving this responsible spending. Are we sure this isn't somewhere in the multi-verse. Seems too strange.
