this is how you manage free agency

"We didn’t go into today thinking we had to accomplish things; we wanted to,” Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes said Monday. “I think what happens in free agency, if you go in overly committed to coming out with something, sometimes what happens is you come out with something that you look back on and wish you didn’t.

“So we wanted to enter the day with discipline and say if we can do this under these parameters, otherwise we’re fine to continue to wait and see if something materializes, either via free agency or via trade.”
 
Ok so. Now this season do we flip Savard, Armia and Dvorak for picks? If the front office don’t think they will resign them I think they gotta make good asset management decisions. They seem to do well with asset management. Dvorak maybe one if you can keep for a 2-3 year deal sure I’d be ok with it. Armia and savard tho. They should go for sure.

In other words .....we have no intention to fuck up on July 1 like other teams

If Habs are in a hunt for a playoff spot I don’t think Savard gets dealt

I think Dvorak might be dealt this summer
 
Crap friendly would not give me Barron so he is likely in the Mailloux slot. So far this is what we see. Likely to change by camp.

So I have a question for the trade everyone right f'ing now crowd. Matheson is going to be due a big raise in two years. If he's showing little signs of slowing down (like Petry) do you sign him to a five year deal (like Petry) if he gives a good hometown discount like Petry did at the time?

Second question is should he give a discount will TVA trash him anyway?

I'd trade him and go with the young guys. Once Hutson is the PP QB Matheson's value will go down anyway. Petry's contract turned out to be shit quite quickly.
