Habs Season Thread: 2024-25 Regular Season

I guess it depends on what one's definition of "playoff mix" means. Is a team that finishes in 9th-10th place in the conference "in the mix", or are they just a slightly less shitty team than they were when they finished at the bottom?
Playoff mix is typically withing 4 points of a spot. I would be ecstatic with that kind of improvement from the youth.

But I would like to see increases from the youth
while I get growth of a team is not always linear, a slip back would be bad. We need to keep moving forward. I don't like how Hughes had a decent draft, signed Slaf, then took off for LaVerendrye Park with his phone off.

My hope for this year with healthy bodies

Primo/Monty establish themselves as a reliable tandem so Habs dont have to start looking for depth

Cole 35 goals
Nick 80 points
Slaf 30 goals
Dach 50 points
Roy 18 goals
Newhook 50 points

D , at least 2 yutes take a huge leap and one rookie sticks and surprises

3rd/4rth line production determines how close we get to a payoff spot , its been among the worst in the league for years

A slip backwards isnt that bad as long as some facet of the team shows progress

Cole for example scoring only 25 goals can be offset with Guhle staying healthy and contributing 30 points

Hugo did it right , ignore the UFA lunacy and stupidity while others will regret their moves in a few years

Hugo wanted no stupid term and better to give Beck a fourth line role than give a UFA 1.5 mil and provide nothing

That cheap player can be had during the year at 750k

Those numbers seem pretty realistic and will put us close.

The third and fourth lines might see some interesting competition and pressure on the vets.

I think the trades come around camp.

Might see movement at camp when teams get a better sense of what they really have.

We may need to keep a couple of waiver candidates around longer than we want (and have a couple of waiver exempt in Laval longer than we want.)
This is what will happen. All teams will assess then movement will start. Especially with camp injuries.

Not to be a downer, but Suzuki, Caufield, and Slafkovsky each played all 82 games last year.

That is very unlikely to occur this year.

You assume he isn't working because you can't see him working. He's working but he isn't going to make a shitty Bergy type deal just for the sake of looking busy.
