Habs Season Thread: 2024-25 Regular Season

A little tidbit from Sal’s favourite hockey pundit

>>Hutson is top 10 in defenseman Net Rating for the season, but he obviously looks even better since Nov. 26. That was his first game away from Savard and his first game taking over the top power play. Here are the defensemen Net Rating ranks since:
  1. Cale Makar: +18.4
  2. Zach Werenski: +16.2
  3. Lane Hutson: +13.6
Hutson is already a superstar.

So... I know I haven't talked to you guys much in like... 18 years. But I just want to go over our current situation:
- We have Caufield, Suzuki and Slafkovsky all early in 8 year contracts for ~$8 million each in an era where the salary cap is going up fast.
- We have Laine on the 2nd line LW (a very difficult position to fill effectively)
- We have a superstar Dman drafted 62nd overall
- We have one of the best fighters in the league backing our guys up
- We have Ivan Demidov joining the team NOW
- We will most likely be in the playoffs
- We have 2 first round picks, 2 2nd round picks, THREE 3rd round pick, 2 4th round picks, and still have the usual 5th, 6th, 7th round picks
- Kent Hughes actually seems to know what he's doing
- Jacob Fowler looks like he might be a stud goaltender
- Monty is looking pretty good these days, and will be just fine as our starter until Fowler is ready to be our starter
- And isn't there some Russian goaltending prospect still in the system that could step in if Fowler doesn't pan out?
- Price's contract will be off the books well in time for us to pay our upcoming stars, and the cap going up so fast will help a lot.

I can only get so hard. Holy fuck. We've waited so long for this. I know there's no guarantee it will all work out, but this is the most exciting I've ever seen the team be in my adult life.

Edit: Apologies if this is the wrong thread for this.

Its time to plan the parades.

Other teams know it's a weak draft this year
That's fair, but those picks still aren't meaningless as assets for a team trying to start a rebuild. It only decreases the value of those picks by so much. That 1st round pick decreases in value a fair bit, sure, but beyond that the weakness of the upcoming draft becomes less meaningful. When packaged with a prospect or two, of which we have more than a few, could land us a decent 2C, which we need.
