Habs Season Thread: 2024-25 Regular Season

He's not wrong, necessarily. Because he's in Montreal, Lane is overhyped. He's good, but he's not winning a Norris, especially if he can't score with the same ease with which he could in college hockey. He's fun to watch and he's going to have a decent career if he remains healthy and elusive on the ice, but at the end of the day he's five foot nothing, a hundred and nothing in a sport that has very little room for small players to excel. Opposing teams will adjust, take away his time and space, and that will be that.

He is a unique player but he is not Hughes or Makar

Defensively he will have his struggles but hopefully we have Spurgeon 2.0 who has has a decade long career in the top 4

Bottom line , Hutson , Mailloux and DM better hit or we are fucked

Montreal Canadiens

2.07 expected goals against per 60 at five-on-five: That is the Canadiens’ expected goals against per 60 minutes of five-on-five ice time in eight games in November. In 11 games in October, that number was at 3.79, easily the worst in the league. Had the Canadiens continued playing such porous defense, they would be so far out of the picture by now that any hope of being relevant in December — let alone February or March — would already be long gone. But shoring up their defensive game this month has led to their goaltenders’ playing better and the team’s being more competitive in general, to the point where the Canadiens remain on the cusp of relevancy. It’s a significant step forward from how bad the first three weeks of the season went for them. — Arpon Basu

He's neither a Norris trophy winner nor a gadget player. But he's trending to be a #1 D. What he's accomplishing as a 20 years old is remarkable.
