Habs trade Monahan to Jets

I don't get too excited about late first round picks, whether they keep it or trade it again. If the Habs end up drafting a player in that position who ends up as good as Sean Monahan is today, that's a good pick.

No quarrel with the trade either. If you were going to move Monahan, maybe its as good as you were going to get. I'm kind of meh all around.

The odds of drafting a player as good as Mony with the Jets pick are next to zero. Mony was a 6th overall pick and largely played like one when healthy.

I'm thinking maybe as good as he is now, not earlier in his career. Then again, maybe he is as good now as earlier.
I agree though, the odds are low.

Maybe its been discussed, but how did Monahan feel about staying in Montreal? That might have made the difference for me in making the trade. His value as a mentor might have outweighed any value obtained in a trade such as this. At any rate, he'll cetainly be missed on the ice for the next while.

Obviously he wants a nice final contract, hopefully it is from us. For once we had a guy traded who was happy to be with us.

There’s no way Hugo is resigning Monahan — soft as butter and delicate as a daisy.

His upside is 55 points with a lot of power play time. His probable downside is a ticket to an already crowded Robidas Island

Or
Pick + David Savard (salary retention) for
an A - prospect worth getting excited about

They have a lot of pieces to play with.

Though MA Godin suggested that it would be better to use retention on Allen this year and Savard next year (in Edmunson’s spot) if clearing the goalie thing is a priority this year. Depends on what the objective is I suppose.

yeah, one or the other but there might be more of a deadline market for Savard… obv it depends on what the offers are

nothing wrong with such a trip, gives us more salary cap to play with,,,

How many more fucked up contracts do you want on this roster , cmon

Team is rebuilding not contending for cups

14 and 22 in 3 years time absolutely look at cashing in if this team still sucks donkey balls
well, this trade did not lengthen nor shorten a rebuild, a 25-30th overall might make the team in 2027, if by chance we did get the conditional, then we draft 32 so 2027 and the conditional might play a game in 2031.

This trade does not move the needle either way.
