Ivan Demidov - Montreal Canadien

He tried with Subban and when he was unsuccessful they got rid of PK.
Subban won a Norris and had arguably his best seasons under Therrien. And Subban wasn't without his faults either and pretty much became irrelevant 2 years after being traded.

He was also criticized for his handling of Galchenyuk as well and yet Alex had all his best seasons under Therrien, and essentially disappeared one season after being traded.

SKA won today 3-1. No points for our boy but . . . rang two of the posts and Kuzy failed to bury a 3 on 1 chance that Demi set him up on.

Demidov back checks already. The fact that he doesn’t shirk his defensive responsibilities is one reason the Habs are so high on him
Did this all first period today. Matter of fact, he's playing more like the center on his line in this regard. First forward back and supporting his D down low giving them options to deter forecheck pressure. Also had a fantastic offensive shift where he basically controlled the play for about 15 seconds. Added a hit on the forecheck later to boot.

They're down 1-0 with less than 7 min to go. Coach has shortened his bench, basically only playing 2 lines, and Demidov only had one (I think) short shift at the tail end of a 2 man adv.

He was fired before he could ruin them. He thought they were too "soff".
He was talking about the defensemen, and he was right, half those guys were out of the league in a couple of years. He had recently took over the team and had to do something. It worked, he turned them from a .354% into a .640% team in one season, cutting goals against from 316 to 246. Crosby only won the Hart and Art in Therrien's first full season with them.

Therrien was an old school, tough-talking, blunt coach. Those kind IMO usually have a short shelf life. I thought he was OK, but for the fact he chainsmoked in his office even when meeting with the athletes!

He could be a prick, unpolished, thick accent, but he was really good at getting the best out of his players. Somehow managed to coach 3 Hart, two Vezina and one Norris trophy winners.

So not playing Kuznetzov or Demidov, down 2-0 in the 3rd. And of course, they didn't score. Rotenberg sounds like a moron.

He played Kuznetsov. But that was a problem, IMO. Kuznetsov absolutely sucked in this game. Zero back-checking. lots of floating all over the ice, and bitching to his teammates. I'm kinda glad they dropped Demidov from his line in the 2nd, but I was hoping they'd play the fuck out of him on one of the other lines. They basically went with 2 lines all of the 3rd. earlier in the game, Demidov had one bad turnover (that led to a good chance), but it was because he was deep behind his own net helping his D, while the rest of the forwards were floating by the blueline. So he goofed trying to force a long pass, but hey, at least he was playing defense! But the coach seemed to punish the rook for that.
