Juraj Slafkovsky, Montreal Canadien

I wonder if Shane Wright would be so at ease. Slaf seems to really enjoy this part of the job.

I also think that the previous regime would have drafted Wright because Slaf's easy going nature and his on camera demeanor would raise red flags for a guy like Bergevin. Slaf would appear to him to be "too h'individualistic", too much like Subban, the kind of player they would eventually need to deal with when he got "too big".

Put Shane Wright in that clip and Bergevin would love it. He wouldn't joke around with ease, he'd barely speak. Humility. Obedience.

I'm starting to think that HuGo drafted Slaf not merely for hockey reasons but to also signal a change in the organizational culture. Having a personality is no longer going to be something that the organization feels the need to correct or manage anymore.

They drafted Slaf because he is a potential unicorn with a mix of Tkacthuk and Rantenan game

They didnt draft the best 18 year old but who they thought is the best 22-30 year old

I still say Nemec comes out on top in 5 years but no issue with Slaf

I was listening to a part of this podcast, and if it's true, Shane Wright would have died a slow, painful death if he was drafted here.

Just before the latest NHL draft, fans got a sense of the player they were getting in Shane Wright. He was slated to go 1st overall, and he made it very clear that he felt he deserved that position. He went fourth overall, and wasn't too pleased about it, something he also expressed. IN this year's rookie camp, it seems Seattle Kraken's youngsters got a sense of what Wright will be like as a teammate.

During the latest "Coach Frenchy" podcast, a reporter who covers the Seattle Kraken and was in attendance for the first day of rookie camp made a guest appearance and was asked about of his impression Wright. He called Wright "an interesting cat" before launching into a story. On his very first day of rookie camp, the Kraken had members of the couching staff of the AHL's Coachella Valley Firebirds playing "cursory defence" on some drills. Wright took the puck up through neutral ice before it was promptly poke-checked away from him by Jessica Campbell, assistant coach of the Firebirds and a goal and silver medalist at various major tournaments. Wright was not happy.

"Wright just does a mini-stick slam, his whole body tenses up, and, you know, the whole body language was just like 'ok this is interesting. That was an interesting reaction for a drill at a casual kind of rookie camp'."

It wasn't the only moment of frustration that Wright was involved in.

"There was another moment on the first day where he was struggling and, again, you know, another mini stick slam. And the contrast between him and the other players who were clearly just very happy to be there, and Wright, who was kind of getting mad at himself for getting poke checked by a coach."

I have diagnosed Wright as having a slight case of Asperger's. #notadoctor

Meh, just feels that he's being hard on himself and acts a bit frustrated unlike Juraj, who's also hard on himself, but is just an happier kid.

He got poke checked like a bitch....by a GIRL!!!! That's an affront to hockey culture which holds that women are vessels to be used by players in hotels, not to embarrass them during practice by out-skilling them.

Yes, Habs don't have enough size and skill mix up front, only Anderson. So they drafted for need, they have plenty of D prospects. But you have to draft players that are capable of making plays at the high tempo of the NHL game.
