The National Parity League is all about favorable matchups:

Habs are 5-2 vs Edm
Edm are 5-2 vs Jets
Jets are 5-2 vs Habs

Other than last game vs Jets, no other game has been close to lopsided incl vs Leafs - unlike the entire season series vs Flames

Cgy is simply a bad matchup for Habs - they don’t have enough forwards capable of grinding out a game along boards in the corners, and their young Cs simply are not capable right now to step up and carry the team for a game here & there. Also the hope is the Hobbit could potentially provide for Habs what the elite stars on Leafs & Oilers provide vs Cgy, one chance being enough to finish off a play putting Flames on their heels having to play catch-up and forcing them off their game plan
Good thing they are (probably) waiting until the biggest game of the season to find out, don't want to put too much pressure on him, after-all. What a bunch of morons.

MB shouldn't survive this roster issue fcking up. I mean this is ridiculously fcuk up.
Each organisation has few of this matter experts around and he still fcuk it up. When was the last time!??! Tallon at Florida??
It is less painful when the GM in question gets result but not with this mess with Habs

I think he would
You don’t tell a respected vet to waive his trade clause and sit him after you acquired him at the deadline

This is not a Thornton situation where you can tell him from day 1 , Joe you might be sitting out some nights

Terrible optics , you blame the team for picking up a washed up player

Simply make some calls to gm’s in that division how he looks

if the player is not helping the team, he sits. period. Staal would understand. The terrible optics here is watching Staal play.

Nobody but Staal would complain. Not a single player looking at this situation would think we are doing him dirty. Even Staal would understand. The locker room would understand. Undeserved ice time is bad optics.

He deserves to sit but Nero needs to be punched in the face for making this move

If he useless why bother

Montreal is already an undesirable place to go unless you pay more than the others, and even then...

I'm more on GEEMAN's side in this: The optics of sitting out a highly respected veteran in the NHL, who chose to lift his no-trade claude despite not initially wanting to come here, would be terrible. Maybe not right now, but the next time you want to trade for someone with a NTC and they don't want to come here, or even a UFA, the amount of convincing required to get them to accept to come here will be incredible.

I'm also of the impression that, Staal agreed to get traded here to play, not to be a spare part. His family's in the US and he can't visit them, he didn't give that up to be left aside.

Both sides were well intentioned, Habs acquired him and gave him top 9 minutes + PP time. They kept their engagement. Staal hasn't, he's been completely disinterested at times. If we had traded for him and benched him immediately, you'd have a point, but we've been quite patient and generous.

Staal has received a fair amount of ice time; not sure he would have anything to complain about

Bergy can counter he didn't give up a few draft pick for a guy that is producing less than the guy he already had (Jake Evans)
