I went to a couple of games this season and the overall experience was top notch. My annual guys trip to Montreal for a Habs game now includes a Rocket game as well. We bought a table in the Cage Aux Sports area ($400 for a table of 4) that we could never afford at the Bell Centre. It was a big crowd and the production value was every bit as good as what the Habs do downtown.
An interesting read on the business side of the Laval Rocket.
Newmarket Saints , dive of a building but great to watch a gameI went to a couple of games this season and the overall experience was top notch. My brother in Toronto has taken his sons to some Marlies games at the CNE Coliseum and it's completely dead. Small crowds (and a garbage product just like the parent club) It's like MLSE put no effort whatsoever into making the AHL product attractive to consumers.
When I lived in BC I would go.to.see the Bulldogs when they came to play in Abbotsford (now home to the Canucks AHL affiliate but back then the Flames affiliate) Nobody in BC wanted to watch or cheer for Calgary's farmhands. I don't know if the crowds are any better now that the Canucks are there. When I went, Ryan Walter was the GM and he would wander the concourse meeting fans. He let me try on his 86 Cup ring. But the atmosphere was nonexistent. A 4000 seat, brand new arena and they couldn't even half fill it.
My only other AHL experience was way back in 1989 when I went to see the Newmarket Saints play the Adirondack Red Wings in some old barn. Wound up having then Leafs GM Gord Stellick sitting behind me. I made sure to thank him personally for the Courtnall for Kordic trade.
Wasn't it Belleville? I remember they picked 3 players from the Bulls one year.Newmarket Saints , dive of a building but great to watch a game
I probably sat in the same row heckling Stellick and his budget to only scout Kington players in a draft year
Your right KingstonWasn't it Belleville? I remember they picked 3 players from the Bulls one year.
Yes, I'm right. Belleville.Your right Kingston
Shit Belleville my badYes, I'm right. Belleville.
1989 First Round: 3rd - Scott Thornton, 12th - Rob Pearson and 21st - Steve Bancroft. Thornton had an okay career, but underwhelming for a 3OA, and the other two were absolute busts. Between 4th and 11th, Stu Barnes, Bill Guerin, and Bobby Holik were drafted.
The Bulls were an expansion team in the OHL in 81-82 and instantly became an Oshawa Generals fan's 2nd most hated team after the Peterborough Petes. It was great in the 83 Playoffs when the Generals beat all of their most hated rivals en route to the OHL championship. Smoked Belleville (and goon boy Marty McSorley) in the first round, beat Yzerman and the Petes in 4 straight in the quarters, took 5 games to beat Brian Kilrea's Ottawa 67's in the semis and finally the Soo Greyhounds, a team we could never seem to beat when we needed to, in the finals in 4 straight. 4 straight against a team coached by Terry Crisp and featuring Rick Tocchet, John Vanbiesbrouck and Jeff Beukeboom.Shit Belleville my bad
Deux dépisteurs professionnels de la LNH que nous avons consultés au sujet du jeu de Reinbacher ont été extrêmement impressionnés par sa capacité à déplacer la rondelle et à prendre des décisions rapides. – Arpon Basu
