I think he gets traded this summer in a package.. I can't see him playing another season in the AHL as he has already lost the starting position next year anyways. He will be 26 at the start of next season.. Time to cash in with what we can get for him.

Isn’t Primeau RFA? I don’t see Hughes just waiving an asset for no return
 
HuGo should gauge what the market is willing to offer for Diekembe this summer - combination of very manageable AAV for next 2-seasons + very strong performance last season / playoffs + peak age might net a very strong return either individually or part of a package.

I would not reup a 31 yr old Diekembe (when his present contract expires) @ the market price he’ll likely get - better off being pro active & maximize return now IMO
