Leaf Rumours

Even ignoring the merits of that proposed trade, the Nuge is the only NHL-calibre center the Oilers have at the moment with Gagner out. The Oilers don't deal him away unless they're getting a better center back in return.

Bozak is a much better fit on a 2nd/3rd line in a smaller role.

I don't have an issue playing Bozak with Kessel for balance purposes -- and it hasn't really seemed to hurt Kessel's or JVR's production -- but what happens when he plays with Kessel, he ends up being the #1 PP C by default which isn't the best use of personnel.

I'd keep Bozak because he's still useful, but I'd play him a lot less. At this point, it's hard to argue how he's not the Leafs third best C, but he's averaging the most icetime.

Some potential UFA's that could be dealt by the deadline among the likely sellers:

Buffalo: Moulson, Ott, Tallinder, Miller
Calgary: Cammalleri, Stajan, Stempniak
Edmonton: Hemsky, R. Smyth, Jones, N. Schultz, Dubnyk
New Jersey: Jagr, Zidlicky, Brodeur
Philadelphia: Downie, Timonen, Meszaros, Emery
Florida: Goc, Boyes, Gomez, T. Thomas

Timmonen and Zidlicky are good solid vets, but I'd rather stick with Gardiner and Rielly.

The Leafs really don't have too many holes.

Jagr's late-career strategy is pretty hilarious. Sign with a bad team for as much money as he can get, and then get dealt to a playoff-bound team at the trade deadline. It'll be interesting to see just how many different teams he ends up playing for before his career is over.

I'm stunned Philly dropped Timmonen from their top PP unit.....seems like such a dumb move, especially when it (a) probably makes your PP worse, and (b) diminishes the value of an asset you could sell at the deadline.

The Flyers ironically, are getting good goaltending. I didn't see scoring as an issue. It seems they almost always concentrate on forwards and nothing else. But they can't score. And their cap situation is not good at all.

Giroux's play going down has been long enough now that it's getting worrisome given his massive contract.

I'd make a move for him. The likelihood for his return to dominance is high.

Bozak + Gardiner + 1st... getr done :drink

JVR - Girioux - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Clarkson
Raymond - Bolland - Kulemin

Best top-9 in hockey.

You gotta wonder if they're gonna let Homer be in charge of the inevitable makeover that's coming for that team... gotta think his job's on the line pretty soon, he assembled the bulk of that roster.
