Leaf Rumours

Update: Firing Kevin Dineen and his coaching staff is likely just the start of pending adjustments for the Florida Panthers. ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun suggests GM Dale Tallon hopes to make some on-ice personnel changes as well:

"... The next move for Dale Tallon will be to make a trade or two to shake up roster. He's been trying hard for a while ... Not suggesting anything is imminent, but saying Tallon has tried mighty hard to find a trade fit over last couple of weeks ..."

Anyone we could use on that roster?

Maybe Goc? He's a cheap C who is good on draws and a UFA next year.

Elliotte Friedman:

9. For all the talk about the Toronto Maple Leafs looking for a centre, the team's lesser-known need might be a right-shooting defenceman. They have one in Cody Franson and Dion Phaneuf, who shoots left, prefers the right side. But word is the Leafs have been looking for another, although it's been an on-again/off-again search. At one time, they poked around Mike Weaver. But it sounds like they would like someone who can play a little higher in their lineup.

11. The word on Toronto's goaltending tandem of Jonathan Bernier and James Reimer: Barring an obscenely good offer that Leafs GM Dave Nonis can't say no to, those two will spend the year together. Why not? They're forcing each other to be very good.

I know the cost would be absurd, but right now would be a great time to steal away Claude Giroux from the Flyers. The team is struggling, Giroux is struggling.

Here is an elite centre ripe for the picking. This could potentially be a Phaneuf type pickup for the Leafs.

JVR - Giroux - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Clarkson
Raymond - Bolland - Kulemin

That top 9 is the best all around group in the league in my opinion.

Wishful thinking i agree, but definitely something worth looking into depending on cost.

The Flyers will want a package for the 90-100 point Giroux, not the one struggling right now.

Would you trade Kadri, Rielly or Gardiner + 1st for him?

I wouldn't.

For the 100 point giroux i would.

THen again, i am probably in the minority here.

Bozak + Gardiner + Gauthier + 1st for Giroux is probably as far as i go.

Then again, maybe we can "steal" him away for Colton Orr or seomthing ;)

I would give more for Giroux

I dunno, if Giroux is just a 70-odd point guy (which it looks like), then I don't love him as much as most do, because overall he's more towards the "small and slow" end of the talent spectrum.

I don't liken giroux to a 70 pt talent

Giroux
10/11: 82 gms, 25 gls, 76 pts (82 gms, 25 gls, 76 pts)
11/12: 77 gms, 28 gls, 93 pts (82 gms, 30 gls, 99 pts)
12/13: 48 gms, 13 gls, 48 pts (82 gms, 22 gls, 82 pts)
13/14: 16 gms, 1 gls, 8 pts (82 gms, 5 gls, 41 pts)

It's looking more and more like that near 100 point season was an outlier and he's a more likely to get 70-80 pts than 90+

Aside from his 16 game sample size this year.....there's nothing from the last three years that indicate he would be a 70 point player.
