Leaf Rumours

Well he probably won't want Filatov(and didn't he say he wouldn't have drafted him at all, even much lower in the first round, when asked?)...a Euro with attitude issues. Then again, he did sign Grabo, so...

He's doing the whole I'm perfectly fine staying in Atlanta just pay me what I'm worth routine, until he's UFA, and then he'll talk seriously with a bunch of teams and likely take less.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet in any of these threads, but the Leafs have sent Viktor Stalberg down to the minors, and recalled Jay Rosehill.

No, I'm not joking.

Stalberg isn't doing what he needs to do to stick.

We've seen glimpses from him. But really he is best suited to a long stretch in the minors. Let him keep dominating down there, but in the process teach him how to use his size more effectively. He has to learn to protect the puck better, and to mix up his speeds a little bit.

He has the makings of an excellent top six forward, though, so I'm not the least bit concerned.

But calling up Rosehill is stupid because he stinks. I don't like Deveaux but he's better. Because Rosehill is just a scrapper, and we already have one of those. At least Deveaux can skate/work the cycle a little bit.

Great. As if we didn't need more reasons to hate this team.

I have to admit, I don't know what is wrong with Stalberg. Why he isn't dominating the way he was during preseason is a mystery. I think he played well while up here, but not sure why the offense isn't there. I hope they can work out the kinks with him quickly.

I can't be too upset. Stalberg was looking far too much like Kilger out there for my liking.

It's really too bad - he's been up with the team twice, and had a very strong start both times - but then immediately got injured both times, and somehow forgot how to play both times he came back.

Hopefully next time he gets the callup, he doesn't get injured in the first game or two like has happened twice now already, and can carry his momentum forward.

It makes for a simpler lineup, at least - this is good news because it means more icetime for Kulemin and Hagman, as they no longer have to split time with Stalberg.

And now we can play our 4th line even less.

I'm not suggesting sitting him "because he's mired in a slump."

I'm suggesting giving him a game off because he's playing differently, not anywhere near like he was before. He's strayed off the path he took when he was succeeding. And I'm suggesting that these things have led to his slump.

Is it a mystery that Marois didn't dominate in the league like he did during the 98-99 training camp? Or that Suglobov didn't dominate like he did during the 06-07 training camp?

There's no mystery.... it was the pre season.

Weird quote.

I know it was preseason, but he wasn't just scoring shit goals on bad goalies. He was scoring amazing goals on good goalies.

I know he has it in him. Like Kuly, he'll reward my faith.

No, it isn't a weird statement.

A lot of mediocre players have looked great in the preseason.

I'm not calling Stalberg a mediocre player, but anybody who was expecting him to continue to perform as he did in the preseason was bound for disappointment. He'll never be a point per game forward in this league. He was just feasting on second rate defensemen who couldn't handle his speed -- just like he has done in the AHL.

The regular season/NHL is a totally different game, as is made clear by his complete lack of success at that level.
